DB struggles early - pre season expectations to high?

Actually I think the Indians will probably be all right the last half of the season. I am just suprised they are playing so poorly right now. These are pretty much the same guys that played really well at the end of last year and were picked to win the conference this year. All this getting in sync, timing and chemistry comes from coaching. Pretty much all the teams DB plays has to do the same thing, and most of them have football players also. I'll give DB credit for the wins they have so far, but they have not been impresive by any stretch. The Seniors need to pick it up a notch. Right now we have a Soph., and a Jr. thats leading the team. I know Cody being out is hurting, but this team has a deep bench and should be playing much better than they are.

They are also playing without their best player, Coty Sensabaugh, until at least the Arby's.

It is like trying to compare Duke last year without Redick. It will be two totally different teams when he comes back. Coty is a defensive stopper, the leading scorer on the team, and the catalyst for everything. When he gets back this team will have Throp at the point with Sylvester and Sensabaugh at the wings. That will be REALLY tough to stop.

With that said, I think you have to wait until after the Arby's and until Coty gets back to full strength, then you can evaluate the team with preseason expectations in mind.

I thought that given last night's result you might need a thread on which to reconsider how long you need to wait before evaluation.

I wasn't at the game but based on the way the radio color man described things, it sounded like the team came out completely flat, especially on defense. I can rembember some of the great memories of DB/Central games of the 70's. There was Dickie Warren on one bench and Buck Van Huss on the other. And the gyms were always packed. Ah those were the good ole days. These two teams were always fired-up when they played each other. Now it seems like Central gets fired up but the Indians are just going through the motions. I don't know if it's team chemistry or what but the players just seem to have a lackodasical attitude right now. If things don't change pretty quickly, I'm afraid DB might end up being the biggest disappointment of the Big 9 Conference this year. And that would be a shame because I really like Charlie Morgan both as a person and as a coach.

Im very suprised at the team. So far they haven't been very good at any faze of the game. Rebounding, foul shots, defense, blocking out, way to many fouls, their just not doing anything very well at this point. Their nowhere near the team they were at the end of last year. And they should be better, even this early in the season. With 4 returning starters they should be on it right out of the gate. I thought they might be one of the teams to make it to state this year but that looks unlikely now. Just to many problems to fix. Everybody says Morgan is the real deal and maybe he can bring them around. But then again, if he's the real deal why doesn't he have them ready to play now?

Now waco i dont see anybody bashing on girls softball, just give it time.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
