Hamilton County school officials say an Ooltewah High School basketball coach is out of the classroom today, due to allegations of inappropriate racial comments.

Ron Baker is being questioned as a result of complaints by players and parents.

They say Baker used a racial slur to describe players on the Red Bank team, which defeated Ooltewah 61-47 Thursday night. The alleged comments were made in the locker room following the game.

One Ooltewah parent, Terence Ford, who has two sons in the basketball program, told Channel 3 Eyewitness News he would consider transferring them if the situation wasn't handled properly.

School system spokesperson Danielle Clark said administrators were investigating the complaints. She said the school system does not condone such behavior.

Ooltewah High Principal Ed Foster said all the facts were not in, but the school system "would do what is right. If the allegations are true, what was said was inappropriate and disrespectful."

He said it was too early to say if Coach Baker would be suspended.

If he said what they said he did, which he did not deny to parents after the game, he should not return to coach at Ooltewah. I doubt he will have the option to return.

He seems to be a fairly respected coach in Chattanooga so we will see what happened.

This thread does have the potential to get out of hand, so be careful. We need to let the facts come out and wait for Coach Baker to speak about it to the public. (which he may not have the option of doing)

Good grief, so go ahead and shut it down. I thought this was a discussion and news forum about high school sports. The head coach at Hamilton County's largest school, one of the largest in Tennessee is suspended indefinitely because of his behavior. The school system has issued the announcement, and it is on every news station and news site in the area.

The entire school, parents, boosters and opponents are all talking about it.

How will it affect the team? Who will take his place? Will players who are threatening to quit actually do so? How does this affect their playoff chances?

If those topics are too hot for Coach T, let's talk about the weather.
