If natives were ahamed of themselves they really wouldn't care if their images and symbols were bastardized for the sake of football...

Whoa!! Hold on just a second. Nobody is doing that to the images of the native americans. The mascots were not chosen to ridicule ones race. They were chosen to be a sign of respect. So you might wanna use a better word choice next time you start accusing.

I have not declared a position on this subject because I don't really think it matters. What we think isn't going to change anything anyway. With this much focus on the issue, either the state board of education or the TSSAA will cave on this one. Too much publicity. If the human rights commission opines in favor of the natives, you may see local school systems attempt change...thats when the fur will fly...and the law suits will be filed and the issue forced. I think the kids will suffer because of the adverse publicity. We may find, if cooler heads prevail, that a compromise can preserve everyones dignity. Right now I think we are making a big deal over nothing...after all the human rights commission has just said they will listen to what they have to say...maybe that's a good idea for all of us.

Do you dye your hair or somethin? There's somethin cookn up there but it ain't a thought process.

If you had said it that way instead of making the firewater crack the comment would not have smacked of racism. Physically, native americans are more susceptable to the effects of alcohol than other ethnicities.

Of course even your lucid comment is tainted the same stupidity and bigotry...like your "ashamed of themselves" comment. If natives were ahamed of themselves they really wouldn't care if their images and symbols were bastardized for the sake of football...they might even try to make a buck off them.

Hey barb dear.....the Indians are getting their reparations checks every month for pale face stealing sacred hunting ground and they got that nice casino down in MS......let the mascots stay....grab a cold one and just chill out! By the way the reservation school there has the "Warriors" for their mascot and their gym is called the "Scalping Grounds". Do they have change as well or do they get a pass as an "injured" race?

    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
