QUOTE(85warrior @ Feb 23 2007 - 04:09 PM) 826386260White County girls have been ranked a few times including #1 for I believe 8 weeks in 1993-1994.

South Greene has been ranked.

LA has been.

Meigs County.

Oak Ridge to name a few.

Mt. juliet and Cleveland have both joined Shelbyville in the Top 25 this year. I know MJ and Shelbyille have both finished a year in the poll. I think WC should have been at least in the poll to start the year, not sure why they did not and Shelbyville did.

QUOTE(Treyvols99 @ Feb 23 2007 - 04:11 PM) 826386261Shelbyville girls have won a USA today National Championship!

Shelbyville has been ranked in the top 25 in at least 15 years since the national rankings began in 1985 (in some years, they did not deserve it, but their reputation alone got them rated). Shelbyville won the National Championship in 1989, was undefeated in 1990 and placed #2 nationally to Christ the King...whom they tortured in 1991 when they again were undefeated (110 straight!) to again finish the season ranked #1 nationally (the Tiffany Woosley era!!!). W/o Tiffany Woosley, they still had a strong enough line-up to begin the 92/93 season ranked #1 nationally, but lost their first game of the season. They lost 4 games that year and won their 4th straight state championship and still ended up #10 nationally. Shelbyville put Tennessee girl's basketball on the map (their success against out-of-state teams such as national champs Altoona, PA around 86 & 87 got the attention of the national scouts). Shelbyville's success and that of Summit at UT have given the state's girls programs the attention they deserve, so that follow up teams like White County, Livingston Academy, MT. J and others can be taken seriously. At the national level, Tennessee is a known quantity for strong girl's basketball. Shelbyville paved the way and still often sets the standard after 20+ years.

I believe Coffee Co. won the state the 92-93 season.

Thanks for the Coffee Co. plug. In our only state tournament appearance, we made the most of it in '93, ending the year #13 in the national rankings, with 8 inches of snow on the ground. That championship has to still kill White Co. fans, b/c they accounted for all 3 of our losses that season, and mopped the floor with us in 2 of those! Believe me, when Henry Co. put WC out in the state that year, we breathed a sigh of relief. Alas, that season is just a memory. And that's about all we have in CC these days. But what a year that was!

Chalk another bullet up for 8AAA play. You may not care for Shelbyville, but we root for Coffee County against anyone outside 8 AAA! Coffee County has much to be proud of with its rabid fans and playing history. Don't be timid about extolling that 93/94 state championship!
