QUOTE(mahaney @ Apr 16 2007 - 11:46 PM) 826439136[/snapback]Great 8 Predictions for the 16 and 32-right now!-

16 obviously goes to keveren

then everybody runs almost similar times..but i'd say josh helton for 2nd..

32 predictions??

if hoover runs the mile i would put him 2nd. he and helton are both in the the 32 also so we dont really have any way to know what events people will actually run.

the 32 is going to be johnson all by himself because mr mahaney wants to run the mile. maybe annekan will give him some competition but it looks like he's having a down year so far. he should be way faster than what he has been running.

does this seem like a really down year to anyone? i remember two years ago romell got last in the mile with a 4:27.... and there were 2 or 3 guys under 9:30 in the 32 and everybody under 9:50 except for i think daniel jones went like 9:55 cuz he had just gone 4:21 in the 16. and all of that was without the ba runners because the guys never seem to run great 8 even though the girls usually do and jordan wilson (dl) had a stress fracture. i mean just imagine what that field would have been for the 16: bumbi, abtahi, baker, divinnie, rodewald, gletten, pair, jones, wilson, adams, ray, koko. that is just sick. man i miss the glory days. then in the 8 running over 2 at the great 8 was unspeakable and now there is only one guy with a time under 2 turned in.

oh and does anyone know if ba is going to be able to compete at state this year with their recruiting case being taken to the supreme court and all that

it isn't a team event where points are scored. it is just a showcase of the top distance runners in middle tn. the sprints and field events on the other hand are a toss up depending on how ridiculous the coaches decide to get with the times

Thanks for the reply. You seem to be very knowledgable about track. Do you know who the top teams are in AA track? There really is no info in the paper or on the websites. Track seems to be strong in East TN.

as far as teams go it looks like the usual suspects: mitchell, trezevant, mlk, dl, brainerd, etown, etc. those are the teams i would list as the top 2 in each section but it is kind of an off year all over the state so like last year it will probably really be up for grabs at state in a/aa

i'm on milesplit, but i don't want to share the rankings. coach parks is doing a great job of keeping things current on tennesseerunner.com and i encourage everyone to subscribe to support the site. it's well worth the investment if you are a "trackie". i don't really agree with the rankings system anyway. schools are only ranked based on elite marks, which give a biased idea of what teams are capable of. For example, gatlinburg-pittman was ranked 20th last week because david clabo had the second fastest time in the state in the 1600. are we in the top 20 in the state, realistically? heck no. there is also no breakdown of classifications...which is also skewed.

bottom line....who cares about rankings, anyway. it's all about how we do at regionals and who can advance to sectionals and state.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
