Top Prospects for 2009

There was a nice piece on another site written about Jock Stinson, Fulton QB, class of 09. It's early, but with the whole recruiting cycle being pushed back further (South Carolina already has two 09 commits), Tennessee's talent pool growing wider and deeper, and Tennessee high school football not getting the respect it's due; it seemed like time to start a list.

To the best of my knowledge, last year there were only two players that earned All State recognition during their Sophomore seasons. Both are already receiving a lot of attention from the big name schools, and sites like rivals, scout, etc.

Eric Gordon who is a 5-11, 180 lb athlete out of Hillsboro is one. He really impressed this past weekend at Musical City Seven on Seven. Very quick, big time "playmaker", good hands, and the natural hip rotation that could make him a very attractive CB prospect.

Zak Tait who is a 6-4, 295 lb OL/DL out of Knoxville Catholic. Made the All State team @ DT, but according to rivals, etc. is also being looked @ by Nebraska, Bama, ND, UT, ect. @ OG.

2009 could be the year of the WR in TN. Here they are as well as others. Plase add them if you know em.

* Marlon Brown. 6-5, 200 lb. Harding Academy. 41 Receptions. 780 Yards. 8 TDs.

* Corey Jordan. 6-1, 180 lb. Hillsboro. Gets to work with and against Eric Gordan which can't hurt.

* Zach Rogers. 6-2, 170 lb. David Lipscomb. Smooth, athletic, & could be faster than brother Austin @ UT.

* Nick Thomas. 6-0, 180 lb. Raleigh Egypt. Leaper, great body control, and balance.

* Thad McHaney. 6-7, 210 lb. Brentwood Academy. Very impressive athlete. TE if he adds weight. Match-up problem, if not.

* Cameron Mason. TE. 6-4,220 lb. Brentwood High. Nice hands, blocks well beyond his years.

* Jamie Wilson. RB. 6-0, 195 lb. Knoxville Central. Fast, powerful. Cassen Jackson?

* Wesley Tate. RB. 6-1, 180 lb. PJ II. Name sound familiar?

* Will Gillchrist. QB. 6-2, 180 lb. Hardin County 1600 yards passing, and 17 TDs as a Soph.

* Jock Stinson. QB. 6-1, 180 lb. Knoxville Fulton. 1700 yards passing, and 16 TDs as Soph.

* Derrick Webb. LB. 6-1, 215 lb. Whitehaven. Instincts, speed, and "want to."

* Cole Ticher. DE. 6-4, 225 lb. Brentwood High. Good feet, strenght, and leverage.

* Austin Long. Briarcrest. 6-4, 275 lb. Nice frame, athletic.

Like I said, add em if you know em.

QUOTE(Tom142 @ Jun 12 2007 - 10:00 AM) 826474200[/snapback]Sam Thompson WR/DB from Alcoa. Heard the Naval Academy is already looking at him.

Tom142.

Thanks, and you are right. Sam had a great Sophomore year @ Alcoa last season. Very good athlete, and certainly a DB prospect for 09. I actually thought that he might have been a candidate for the PrepXtra Sophomore of the year last season along with Wilson (got hurt), Stinson, and Tait. Pretty sure he and Tait were on that 2nd team. Heard that Sam blew the ACT away with a 30+ score already? I am sure any of the Service Academy/Ivey schools would take him in a minute. Having said that, he might have the ability to play SEC/ACC type ball. Tell you another one that could be along those same lines is Joe Ayers a 6-3, 215 lb linebacker out of Webb in Knoxville.

Yeah he had, I beilieve, 6 or 7 INT's, and around 200 yards receiving, with something like 60 tackles. The rumor is he made a 31 on the ACT as an 8th grader, and his two older brothers attend the Naval Academy, they really are a blessed family when it comes to athletics and academics. If he can grow a few more inches, some more weight will add on, then I definitely think some ACC and SEC schools may come calling.

The best 2009 player from Blount County is not from Alcoa or Maryville. Cole Lail is a stud linebacker from William Blount. Cole is 6' 210lbs.

Justin Smith is Maryville's 2009 stud. Justin is 6' 230lbs defensive end. He dominated vs Alcoa. Look out for Thomas Shuler. Thomas is 5'10 175lbs and runs a 4.6 He would have played a lot last year but was injured.

Sam Thompson of Alcoa is very impressive.

Rebelron.

Marcus Englehardt DL looked good for an 09 kid @ the UT Senior Camp on Sat. Looks like he has gotten stronger up top.

Marcus is good on his feet too, ruse?

Marcus and Justin Smith will be three year starters for the Rebs. Not too many lineman do that. We have some really big kids who will be upcoming sophomores and a very good QB prospect in that group as well.

STARSNBARS.

Yes Englehardt did have very good feet. Don't know if the Smith kid was there or not. The Mville kids were not wearing any Muuuurville "stuff." Just happened to see him w/Douglas and Shiver. There were a # of other local kids there that looked good. Sterling @ Farragut, Jones @ AE, Walker @ B. Blount, the 2 LBs @ Catholic Tait & Trussler and the 09 OL/DL Tait kid who has VERY quick feet for a 300LB kid.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
