Two quick questions/comments:

1) I think Ethan Gunter came on strong at AC as the replacement to R. Kelley at FB. I'm glad to see him on the field. I believe he has earned a spot as a starter (don't calim to be a coach or think I should be). I hope/expect he will do well in Kelley's absence. That said, did the Hodge boy even get ONE carry?? I thought he was the number two behind R. Kelley?? I have seen a couple of practices and this kid looks really good running the ball. The scout team can't tackle him when I've watched, but yet he continues to not get any carries in scrimmages. (Not sure how much doing well in practice translates into chances in scrimmages - again, I don't claim to know more than the coaches) Now, don't get me wrong - I'm glad Gunter came on strong at the end of the scrimmage. We needed someone, and I think it is Gunters turn (as a hard working senior - also, Hodge plays at LB and could use some rest). I'm just curious, HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED how well Hodge runs in practice???

2) What happens to this team when McGill gets hurt on defense? I know some young guy's are getting a look - but WOW - what a big dropoff. Hope these guys grow up or it will not be good (#31 Hillard?? looks like he might be a player though - makes good decisions when he is out there)

McGill is a player and I was worried when he was down for awhile last night. Should see a lot of time at RB this year.

Hodge is another runner that needs to see action and spell Gunner if Gunner starts against SC next week. I think he will be given a lot of opportunities this year. He just has to be a little patient untill he gets the call. The call will come.

Even with the loss to Kelly I am still saying a 6-4 record during regular season. That's best case scenario. Worst case I am still tinkering with but it's between either 5-5 or possible 4-6. The rooster better get these boys up early and ready to play.

RDF, you must be NUTS to think this team will be 7-3 in regular season!!

I don't mean to pick at you Hallsgrad, but why is RDF "NUTS" to give Halls only one more win than you do. I guess you are saying that 4 of the teams on Halls schedule are "sure" losses. Are these Maryville, West, Central and Bearden? These are the four strongest teams I see on the schedule. Just curious.

Surefire losses....Maryville, West, Central, and EITHER Sevier Co OR Bearden.

I will go out on limb and say that I think Halls will win at least 2 games against those 5 teams. My fear is that Halls could trip over Powell, South Doyle or Clinton very easily if they don't show up to play. Gibbs and Lenoir City should be improved from last year but I think we win those big. (6-4 or 7-3 sound about right to me)

Don't believe either Central or Sevier Co. are sure fire losses.

Maryville & Bearden are the class above and it would take some doing to knock them off.

West have amazing speed and talent but lack line protection and perhaps DL experience. They can score but can they keep people from scoring. I think Farragut will be a big test for them to see how well they do this year.

Central and Sevier Co. have lost so many faces. It will be interesting to see how they both do this year. We may not be at their level but then again....................................

I'm looking at 6-4 no worse than 5-5 and if all the cards fall right 7-3.

I'm counting on a win at home against Sevier Co. If that falls into place Halls could have a very good season this year.

spell Gunner

It is spelled Gunter.

42 is Ryan Pixley, He is a great runner, but has scored all his TD's during the JV part of the scrimmages. He should have a great year during the JV games and should be ready to play varsity by next year. He is a great athlete and only has to learn the offense a little better

I too think 7-3 is a stretch. 5-5 would be more like it, and would be good enough for the playoffs. 6-4 if we put it together for SC. If we come out and play a whole game like we did the second halves against Carter and AC we should beat SC, but if start out like we have been starting it will be over by half time and we wont have a chance to over come our mistakes.

My prediction for SC game 13-10 Halls (if we come to play right out the gate) if we play like we did the first half @ AC it will be 49-20 SC

I think the game with Sevier Co will be a close, but I look for the Red Devils to win it. It's also my understanding, as Zcar said, that SC is maybe a little down as compared to last year. I believe they lost several playmakers. Halls can't have turnovers with the style of game they play. If Halls can throw some things at them that they did not do in last years game, they have a good chance to come away with a W.

how did bearden become "a class above" all of a sudden? wasn't last year their first winning season in awhile. I'm not saying Halls will walk all over them, but they're certainly not in the "no chance" column.

Face it the only good football played at Bearden is in the spring and we call it Soccer. Bearden is known for Soccer because year in and year out they are a dominate team in the area. Bearden is not considered an upper level football program because they haven't had any consistent success. Until they prove otherwise no one will fear the Bulldogs on the gridiron.

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
