Cheatham Co. not "Cheatem" as it's starting to get spelled by everyone.

Marshall Co. is a great team as their 4-1 record indicates and now that Columbia has beaten Giles by 20 the Tigers win over the Lions a couple of weeks ago really looks good. So does the win over a Creek Wood team that hasn't lost a game since that night.

Braden, Hightower, O'Neal, Greer, Morris, etc. The Tigers have a bunch of "BIG PLAY" threats that can hurt you. Coach Thomas and company have done an outstanding job since coming over from LaVergne. They have turned a team that has really underachieved and fell off of the radar over the last two years into what is once again a very powerful threat in Class 3A. The Tigers are still suprisingly floating beneath the radar as far as the AP Poll is concerned. How I have no clue?????? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Cheatham Co. is a young football team that is starting to get somewhat healthy. The schedule has been brutal. Gordonsville (4-1), Giles (4-1), Sycamore (3-2), Lipscomb (4-1), Greenbrier (4-1), & next up Marshall (4-1). That is at the present moment the #1 RANKED SCHEDULE IN THE ENTIRE STATE IN CLASS 3A FOOTBALL!!!!! That combined with injury issues and youth is what has lead to the Cubs not getting the results that everyone keeps expecting week in and week out.

If the Cubs can make it through this week healthy and just continue to play hard and get more comfortable with one another now that players are returning from the injured list then the scheule down the stretch is one in which the Cubs could gear up and make their run. Effort against Lipscomb & Greenbrier has not been a major issue as it may have been for the Cubs against Giles & especially Sycamore. The coaching staff is still a great group and the players are playing hard. If they continue to do so then I have no doubts that the rewards will come in the future.

I expect the young Cubs to put forth an excellent team effort down in Lewisburg this week for what will be "Homecoming 2007" for the Marshall Co. Tigers. BEST OF LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS & MAY BOTH TEAMS STAY INJURY FREE THROUGH THIS HARD FOUGHT BATTLE!!!!!

I was shocked to see that offensively Marshall Co. this year is not all that much different then what they have been in previous years. They still have a solid quarterback in Morris who can throw it when needed. Braden is a very versitile player at running back who can hurt you rushing wise but can also both catch the football out of the backfield as well as when the Tigers split him out as a receiver to try and get the ball to him. Hightower is a stud this year as usual. He's a big target as a receiver who can catch it. When the Tigers go to their heavy package (similar to what the Florida Gators do in short yardage situations with Tebow) and he and Cavalla O'Neal are back there taking snaps that is a scary thought. Cavalla played quarterback last year so he can run it as an athlete but can also throw it as well. Hightower is a big induvidual who is going to get yardage when he's running behind what basically amount to 10 BLOCKERS in the box from tight end-to-tight end. That third and thirty that he converted against Northwest when the Tigers were backed up inside their own ten yard line that went for 90 yards and a TD showed how scary this can be for teams to adjust to. This is about the only different thing that Don Thomas & Co. are doing offensively at Marshall Co. compared to what William Johnson & Co. were doing the last two years.

Defensively EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT!!!! The Tigers defense could not have stopped anyone from scoring over the course of the last two years. They were blistered several times by the opposition. This year MC lost the season opener to Hickman Co. HOWEVER it wasn't due to bad defense. The Tigers surrendered just 14 points to a team that hasn't been held to less than 40 since that night. Marshall Co. scored just 14 in a win over Columbia Central HOWEVER they held the Lions to only 3 points. That's a football team that hung 46 on Spring Hill & 26 on Giles Co. (two playoff teams in the region). Marshall Co. actually has players that fly around to the football and finish with a purpose when they get to the ball. This is something that obviously Coach Thomas & Co. have worked very hard on since arriving. This type of effort and attitude is what has turned Marshall Co. from what has been an "overrated bunch of potential" over the last two years into "an underrated quality team flying under the radar" this season.

Need more proof????? In this week's AP Poll Giles Co. is ranked #10 following the loss 26-7 to Columbia Central. Marshall Co. beat Columbia Central 14-3 just a few weeks ago. Both Marshall Co. & Giles Co. (as well as Lipscomb) are 4-1 overall (2-0 in the region).
