In the midst of all the Maryville talk, I did a little researching today on the history of BA. I knew that the BA/Maryville match-ups were in 76 and 78, but I didn't know much about BA before then.

The school was founded in 1970. By 1972 the football team had a nine win season (although 8 of those wins were forfeited later for using an ineligible player), and in 73 went 13-0 and won their first state title. That seemed quite impressive to me, only rivaled by a public school, Ravenwood, in term of quickness. Even more impressive is that BA was a private school and did not have players zoned to go there, which could help explain Ravenwood's quick rise. Even crazier - Brentwood and the area where BA resides wasn't exactly booming then as it is now.

Looking at home long it takes most privates, heck took most privates established in this time, to become respectable football programs, needless to say BA was ahead of the curve.

So, can somebody please tell me how BA rose to prominence so quickly? A start up school that at the time I don't believe was really that close to being near the metropolitan area that it is now can have that many athletes come there so quickly?

Solomon, thank you for posting.....this is a good question. As much as I like to type, I would write a book......I am going to let others tell the story, then chime in.

Excellent! I am sure you have proof. Here is Ronnie Carter's email address - rcarter@tssaa.org.

If he has the info that BA recruits.....(kind of like the Raiders of the Lost Ark......no one can find the fabled "ark of the covenant") ......I would be MORE than happy to drive this guy to Ronnie's office. We have been looking for this info for over 30 years! /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

Best recruiters in the state. Brentwood academy beating those teams over the years is like a traveling all star baseball team beating the local little league teams.

Couldnt have said it better myself. There IS proof that BA recruited, but Im not gonna waste time looking it up and posting in on forums. BA recruting is not a fairy tale. How can people who live in the poorer portion of Nashville have the money to go to BA? What players were poor? Take a look at where most of your stars came from. The truth is in your face, poking fun at you.

So to answer your question, BA recruited. Note the 8 forfetis for ineligible player.

I agree, I think BA, and the rest of the elite private schools are a bunch of cheaters. Trying to give some kids the opportunity to go to such a high quality school that they would have no other way to go to is just wrong. They should just tell them they are worthless and never going to amount to anything. I can't believe they think its alright to give some kids a break in life and try to help them out. Forget the fact that the kids that don't play sports that receive financial aid FAR outweigh the number of kids that do play sports and receive financial aid. How do they sleep at night?

An ineligible player could be many things......

The answer to the question: "How did BA get so good so fast?" This question can be answered easily with two words: CARLTON FLATT

YUP! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Excellent coach.....tough as nails.....a man you would search for to have your kid work with......He always had great stories.....one about a mamma dog and her puppies.....how you couldn't get around them cause she would FIGHT you.....another great speech was on rock music and staying away from girls and not letting them get in your head...(the old sex ed speech to the team).... /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ......ya see guys, Coach Flatt was much more than just football.....to some of the kids, he was a father figure.......he really cared about his players....was he tough on us? No doubt......could he be mean? no doubt......but he made weak guys strong, strong guys stronger, and boys to men......same with the other coaches....Dalton and Gentry, to name a few...can't leave out long time coach Harris...strong, tough men.......who molded boys to men.......guys would run thru a wall for these men.

    • I have no issues with the Karns Middle School program.   Good coaches and he's with the kids he goes to school with.  He's a rising 6th grader who had to play with 6th grade kids last year because Karns didn't have enough kids for a 5th grade age team.  He's in a good place at this point.   My daughter is a single mom with 4 kids under 11 years old.  We help her out with logistics, so staying in our own area right now is important.  Once he gets to high school age, who knows what happens?  That bridge will be crossed when we get there.
    • I know he was a backup but I thought he filled in well when the starter went down. Never a bad thing to have a change of pace back
    • That would be a good get for them. Lowe always finds a way. Pretty sure they have their Rb from last year returning but not that line of beef
    • One school has said it, it was York…who Oneida and many school that played them before we did claimed that they were the dirtiest bunch they’ve played. Riverside didn’t call us dirty nor did smith after they beat us. Ur only dirty if your the one giving out the whoopins.
    • If it was anyone but #8 I would agree with you. Theirs a couple people on that team that probably would. Not him. And I who was standing on the 1st base line fence saw clearly that the boys foot was covering more than half the bag.
