My fault topvol it was a question and not an arguement. I was under the impression that you agreed with the 2 platoon system. Daniel Sharp is a Junior isn't he? So are we going to have the same situation next year?

 

Seems that with his daddy's ties to the school, how the postition was given to him and his play not giving way to anyone else this year it would seem so unless his daddy decides to transfer him again.

I was merely answering a question, I never said that I agreed with the two platoon system. If those kids that are now playing weren't good enough to play at the start of the season, they shouldn't be playing just because a panic button was pushed. It would be nice to see Hill starting at qb, Joslin, McKinley, Adams at wideouts and have Jordan at an Hback/te for a lead blocking, Duanah at tb and run the spread option and see how defenses could respond. There would be changes on defense too, most noteable at corner.

 

I don't expect to see any changes in the platoon system this year. Coach Smith has come to the conclusion that he has the only top atheletes in East Tennessee that are not tough enough to go both ways. Go figure. Don't think there will be any significant changes on offense either. This is a team with its back to the wall. Needs to focus on this game only, forget points, yards of offense, DB , playoffs and everything else. Just need a win at this point. Pray for impulse control on fourth down by Coach Smith.

Yeah, there is a huge difference from what I would like to see and expect to see. I'm hoping that the game this week is the focus of the team. There are some really good kids hurting right now because they never imagined being where they are right now and they are ready to come out fighting. The problem is that football is a team sport and everyone involved with the team need to have the same attitude. The lack of support in the community is already showing at the last home game. I'll be at Friday's game shouting and yelling like I am at every game, I know it's a long trip but I encourage everyone that is making the trip to fill up their vehicles with as many people possible and show the kids that they are still have some support. I'm pretty sure the band won't be there and they are more of a nusance anyways.

That would be a welcomed sight but too far down the road to see. Glad to see db getting it together.

I tried to tell you guys back in August that Daniel Sharp would not get it done for you. He is a great kid but is not the great qb that he is trying to be made into.

 

I also told you that Daniel Norris was a great athlete that should be given a chance. He was not even brought to workouts this summer with the varsity. He may make mistakes as a freshman, but his athleticism would make some plays that the others couldn't dream of.

 

 

Norris had 1 series with the JV yesterday and did fine. I would not bet the house on Norris to be the starting QB next year or the year after as he is not committed to becoming the starting QB at this time. Next summer when he needs to be working out full time for football, look for him to be on a baseball field somewhere.

Say what you want to about Bowles the game is about running and hitting what you have with Smith is gimmicks do you think you win state with that offense and that type of defense. Don't get me wrong the offense and the defense that is being used now is a great change of pace but to hang your hat on it will get you beat in the long run. We have to get our kids to physically better. Look at the teams that beat us they all was physical with us. Bowles had some teams that was very physical say what you will about the man when he arrived his first team had only 35 players. The mark of a good coach is if dyou left the program better than when you arrived.

 

 

I agree, the play calling is no better now than before as there does not seem to be any strategy, use the pass to set up the run or vice versa. The Topper teams under Coach Bowles were stronger, more physical and in better shape then most teams they faced. Play calling cost them most often and it seems that that remains the same at this point.

The JV group is a much more physical group right now and given the extra year in the weight room the future looks promising.
