carter vs. rutledge

I would not call Carter and Rutledge sorry teams, but I guess I would also not talk trash on an open forum to people that I do not know and a topic that I obviously could care less about. Anyway, I think that this should be a great game, and the atmosphere at Rutledge will be pretty wild I would think. This is probably the Pioneers' Senior Night, and it is the last one that will ever take place for Rutledge High School, they will be fired up and fighting mad. Rutledge's only loss in the region is to Seymour, and they have scored over 40 points in 4 of their wins this season. This team can both run and pass the ball and have pulled one big upset this year, beating previously undefeated Gatlinburg-Pittman. Carter has been a feast or famine team this season, when they are playing great they look like a team that could go 2 or 3 rounds in the playoffs. When they are off they look bad and scared, see AE, Bearden, and Gibbs. This game has been close for the past two seasons, but if you look at the schedule the Rutledge game has come after the Fulton game in those years...not an off week. I look for this to be a close game because Rutledge will be playing for pride and won't quit, and this may be a big upset.

Rutledge has a good team. I still have a hard time with the clock operator who coulldn't keep his hand off of the run button when we were going toward our (GP) go ahead score in the final minute, but Rutledge "escaped". They played their best and we did too, in the second half. They spoiled an otherwise perfect season. Anyway, they are very good, pretty physical, and have a great running game and an athletic/running quarterback playmaker. #7 is a hitter. They'll beat Carter.

The clock operator is an official either in the box or on the field so get over it. Complain to the association that sent them up there but don't try to play the "escape" card on account of the clock operator not being in better control. Anyway the official time is kept on the field as well so there's little in the way of chicanery...

Besides, G-P wasn't in the game until the very end when Rutledge elected to take a safety. Be glad you had a shot in the first place because you were outplayed.

Did you see the same game that I did? Rutledge was lucky to get out alive. They know it. The fans know it. I am over it. Rutledge did appear to want it more, thats why they got the upset over the 4th ranked Highlanders. Hate it because Rutledge is no more. Now they're Grainger County. Man, I love your tomatoes.

Rutledge vs. G-P was a great game. Rutledge had all the momentum early, then G-P turned it around the second half of the game and started making some plays. Emotions were running high at the end of the game, as it seemed like Rutledge was stunned with G-P's valiant comback effort. Rutledge did seem to settle down and make a huge goaline stand at the end of the game. Both teams played great and it was an exciting game to watch. Take nothing away from both teams, they have had great years. But let's, get back to the topic at hand. What about this Rutledge vs. Carter game? This is a huge game for Rutledge. They get a chance to defend their home turf for possibly the final time. A win would give them a chance for a home playoff game. The stadium will be packed, and emotions will be running high. It will be a great high school atmosphere and hopefully a well played game. Both teams are coming into the contest playing pretty good football. What more could you ask for on a Friday night, than to see two teams battle it out for a Region Championship? I don't have any predictions on this game, but I am excited for this one to start.

I see a great game in this one. Two teams going after it. It will come down to defense

what team will step up and make a stop. Rutledge will run the ball and eat up the clock

Carter will be balance. Who has the best defense Carter will load the box to stop the run

if Rutledge can throw the ball some and keep them out of the box Rutledge will win but I

don't see this happening.

Carter will win this one because of more speed.

Rutledge seems to have found the passing game this year. Something I don't remember them showing years past in the stat column in the paper on Saturday mornings. Should be a great game. I do give Carter the edge they seem to be more comfortable with the passing game than Rutledge. I may be wrong but I think the competition that the two teams have played will show up in the 3rd quarter Friday night. It could be the last home game at Rutledge if they lose so the atmosphere will be much great than any other game. It will also decide the Region Championship along with a first round home game.

Rutledge is physical on both sides of the ball. Wat kills me is that 98% of rutledge's offense is right off the gaurds. I believe thats all the plays they have on offense. I think if they could mix it up a bit to get carters defense mixed around and confused rutledge wins. But, with that saying I think carter wins this one because the ability of running and throwing. But should be a hard hitting game.

Well I've stayed out of this one till the end.As most of you know my ID on here is no secret I work in Rutledge and live in Carter so let me be a little more tactful than normal. This should be a great atmosphere for a high school football game. This game will come down to speed vs smash mouth and Carter can bring some of both.If Carter keeps their athletes and playmakers on the field on both sides of the ball and in the special teams they can win handily. However the longer Rutledge stays in the game the more confident they can become. So much for all of this my prediction

Carter 39

R2T's words - "So, what do you expect out of a Fulton player? Fulton has no class"

The truest statement you've ever posted R2T.

Red ... R2T .. should probably stay off this post , he is young and still fired up ... but I think the reason he is fired up is because of the two games last year played between Carter and Fulton ..I went to both games and they were blowouts and Carter knew the only thing they could get on Fulton was to try and get some of their players thrown out for fighting so they couldnt play the next round at Catholic ... well Falcon players were well aware of Carter's strategy. The Falcon players when confronted and provoked just looked at the scoreboard and smiled ... I hope some of those kids from Carter have gone on and things like that dont happen if they play again ... which they wont Region 2 will win all 4 games this year IMO ... Good Luck in the game Friday night .. Region1 championship at stake .... then its over ....

Thaks for the info TadVols. I've heard the same thing from enough folk that I guess there must be some truth to it. I'm not close enough to the Carter program to have any firsthand knowledge. I work with the dad of a Carter player and I do know there's certainly no love lost between the Falcons and the Hornets. However, I was at the games between these two the last two years and I'd have to say there was plenty of bad behavior on the part of both side's fans - enough so that my daughter wanted to leave well before the game was over last year. Regardless, the Carter-Rutledge game shouold be a good one but Carter's speed should carry the day unless the combination of emotion and physicality (and a turnover or two) allows Rutledge to get and hold momentum. I'll give you 3 out of 4 on the region 1 vs region 2 match-ups but 1 beats 4 (and then, of course, loses in round 2). By the way R2T, sorry if I hit a nerve - I thought I was funnin with another old fart like me, not a youngster with the competetive juices still flowing.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
