New 2-aa playoff system?

If travel and geography are the only things to consider, then it is about as good as it's going to get. That's really a consideration in the first and second round as you said. It would not be beyond the realm of possibility for teams in the northwest bracket to play teams in the southwest bracket in the first round to avoid region vs region rematches. That's all anyone is asking is to not have a 1 vs 4, 3 vs 2 rematch of the regular season. There's little excitement generated for such games for the underdogs and most fans would gladly exchange a little travel time for a different venue than one they've already seen or a team they've already played. Second round rematches, like the Lewis Co. vs Hickman Co. rematch have alot more intrigue than Lewis Co. vs Richland.

Why is travel the determining factor? It's not in the third rounds on up. The travel factor could be overcome. Rematches in the first round will kill the interest in the playoffs and we'd have to accept fewer teams OR we could apply a little logic and make the first round an experience worth experiencing.

Might be that some teams can't travel on 25% of the gate. Surely you don't think the TSSAA is going to dip into their pockets to fund travel.

I don't think that is correct. There were two wc with 5-5 records. They might have been 30th.

I was referring to having less teams make the playoffs. That would not include any wild cards. If you don't want

to play your own region...the only way to do that is to reduce the number of teams making the playoffs. It would not be a good plan to bus teams all over the state in early rounds. It is too expensive for most.

Nobody minds Father Ryan playing at MUS in the early rounds of Division II playoffs.

Nobody minds traveling from Memphis to Nashville in the 3rd round of Division I playoffs.

Travel shouldn't be the end all.

Play a jamboree at the beginning of the season in each region to fund the travel expenses for the teams in that region that have the furthest to travel. It's not the limiting factor that everyone makes it out to be. How could travel from the Kentucky line to the Alabama line be a problem in the playoffs, but not during the regular season? We have regions in 2A that stretch from northern tier counties to southern tier counties. What's so different about traveling 100 miles north and south rather than east and west?
