oknative
Yeah...and that is a legitimate question. I don't know the answer. I think it would be a bigger factor for Alcoa than for Maryville. If the multiplier is to be used against small privates...it should apply to small open zone or tuition paying publics too. I remember reading about a state that proposed this very thing. I can't remember what state it was...and if the implemented it or not. But as I read on through the posts. There's no one from Alcoa who wants to answer the question. How many players on the football team come from outside of the district!!!!! supersteve17
Or simply apply the same multiplier to any school (private - open zone - magnet) that has players from outside their district playing on a team. That would also solve all this. The unfairness occurs when you have teams that have a multiplier applied to them who have to play teams that allow players from outside the district, who don't have a multiplier applied to them. Does Alcoa or Maryville have an advantage? Let's find out. Out of the 2007 Championship teams - how many players from each team came from out of the district. Answer this question - and we'll know whether these schools are benefitting from their open zone status. If it turns out that there are only 2-3 players from out of the district, then its probably not a big deal. If its a much larger number, then there's probably something to the original argument stated on this posting. And I've heard, not confirmed, that it only costs $750 for a student to attend Alcoa if they are out of the district. Would it make any differnce if those players were Brandon Warren, Rae Sykes and Chris Shiverdecker? That's only three! BTW, I'm only using those three as examples of difference makers at virtually ANY level. I have no information that they were/are from out of zone. PBandJ
But as I read on through the posts. There's no one from Alcoa who wants to answer the question. How many players on the football team come from outside of the district!!!!! Isn't the argument against BA the fact that they were beating schools 3-4 times there size regularly? Last I checked Alcoa is one of the smallest 2A schools. Where is the public school outcry? Oh wait, I forgot - it's more about prejudice than actual "level playing field". Otherwise, we'd all be talking about the merit system right now. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I'm outraged about Maryville as that is the team clogging my class - even though we can't get to THE game. I'm looking forward to the move to 5A so at least we will have a fighting chance. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Where have you been? There has been a lot of outcry from public and private schools about Alcoa and their tuition athletes. It's also a little different in that Alcoa is beating teams in their own class...not 4 classes above. They lost to 3a Fulton last year.
