Point is, Sparta is a basketball town that loves its teams dearly and that permeates down to the kids in the county. Yeah, Rutherford county is very big, but its talent is split at least 6 or 7 different ways. Great amount of luck goes into winning a state championship, and Oakland has just never seemed to get any come tournament time, or any other team from the boro.

As far as transferring, I have no problems with kids doing so, so long as it within the rules. Some kids are going to want to play basketball, thats where Siegel and Oakland get the benefit, and Riverdale in girls basketballl. Some are going to play football, which brings Riverdale, Smyrna and LaVergne into play. Baseball brings Oakland, Riverdale and Blackman into the fold, and Im just naming off the athletic programs, havent even discussed where a student could go for a certain program that a school does well in preparing them for college in. Would I prefer Murfreesboro be one big happy family like Cookeville, White Co, Warren Co. and Lebanon to a degree? Absolutely, I think it bring about more school pride which in result in more attendance at home and away games, but Im gonna get off my podium now and let you folks talk about this huge 7-AAA showdown.

You crack me up Sparta Boy. I can't wait to see this game. It will be a tough one, but fun to watch. Last time they met Cutter was a little off and so was Sparta in the first half. I don't see a blow out

    • Honestly the A.D. may be powerless at Maryville to some degree versus other schools. I know he has his hands full with GoFan and all the stupid surprises just from the emails he sends out during the season.
    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
