Why Play AAA

As far as AAA bball goes, White Station has 4 gold balls and Science Hill has 3. Now, Science Hill got all of those while coach Pitts was there, then Pitts went to Brentwood Academy and won 4 in 5 years, not bad. White Station has been the best team as of late in Memphis. However take note that White Station is one of the largest AAA teams in the state and that White Station was able to draw from all of the students in Memphis (as they had an open student forum for all students across Memphis and attracted the best bball talent there because of great coaches and academics) and note that White Statiob has not won the gold ball since they got rid of this unrestrictive practice that no other public school in TN used. So, in short; the largest city in Tennessee, that also has the best bball talent in the state, had White Station for years where all of the best talent could come together and play and drew talent from all over the largest city in TN winning the gold ball in 02,03, & 04. In 2002 white Station beat Science Hill in the final game. I guess it was easy for a team to draw from a city of over 500,000 of the best bball players in the nation compared to Johnson City and their maybe 55,000 folks. Sounds unfair? Brentwood Academy got heck for being a private school killin folks in football and here was White Station in memphis basically forming a college talent level team from the best of memphis that nobody could beat. White Station does not allow this now, but all 3 gold balls in recent years were from this format. It would have been nice is all public schools could have used this format, then maybe they could have won a few from you. To me those White Station titles are jaded. And it makes since that because this was stopped they have not won it since. Thanks Memphis school board for all of the bball AAA titles that you cost teams that played with kids from their zone.

It is obvious you are not quite sure what you are talking about.. The Memphis Board of Education has not changed a single policy. White Station's coach retired and went to ECS. The balance of power shifted to Ridgeway which has the backing of AND1 here in Memphis. White Station as all of the Memphis optional schools have open enrollment across Shelby County. Is this fair for the rest of the state, much less the county school here. No it isn't.

We play in this district year after year. We see great talent and our kids compete hard. It is just tough to win a district game much less advance out to regional.

Second point is that good players have a way of going to good programs no matter where it is in the state. Your poor pitiful school district has transfer students that come there for a variety of reasons, one of which is basketball if it is good. Science Hill did well in the 90's get with this decade at least. Yes the gold ball went east last year and the Giants won the Super Bowl. Obama may be president. SH#$%@T happens. The past 10 years the Gold Ball was won in the West Sub-state games.

Still no love for middle tenn. Some good teams here, starting with Antioch, which has beaten White Station, Clarksville, White County, Siegel. Don't count yo chickens before they hatch

And White County did beat White Station in the state championship in 1998. I know who won. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The point is that this is a high school basketball thread (or it at least started that way) and the players UT are using (especially the main three against Memphis) are from West TN.

I dont know if yall get On The Ball in middle or east tn but they ran a article talking about a Decade of Dominance and in the last ten years in all three classes (30 champions) West tn teams won 21 or 22 of those and most all of the wins for east/middle were in Single A! Memphis had won 9 in a row till last year.

Just out of objectivity you would all have to admidt that the best team doesnt always win. Maryville played a great game and deserved to win.

White County won back to back AAA state championships in the late ninties mowing down many west tn. opponents. Not doing too shabby this year either. They have already beat the best west Tn. team earlier in the year Dyer County.

Dyer Co. went to Cookeville in December. They proclaimed themselves to be the best A AA or AAA team from West Tn. Possibly the whole state. I guess they didn't want to get too cocky. They went back down 40 west with a big L at the hands of White County.
