Should Privates and Publics Be Split?

Old Pirate says you just supported what OP has said all along. The Chatt area has a large number of middle schools and the privates frequently recruit these for the athletic students. The public schools are left with what they get. OP says just witness the privates when participating in middle school and follow them later in high school. They obtain transfers and become more compeitive. Go figure, subject to speculation!!!! Draw your own conclusion.

Old Pirate says families are sometimes caught thinking that "all" is better in the private sector. Somethings are better and somethings are not always better.

OP, Beavo, there is another facet to this thing that goes mostly

ignored, and that is not only does this apply to athletes, but

to other students as well. Privates draw the better non-athletes,

further diluting the public schools, leaving a higher avg. of

students that do not do well, have parents that are not involved, one parent kids, etc. And, yes, magnets do the same thing, actually more so.

But, who cares, right?

Of, course, a split wouldn't solve this part of the equation, unless, for every good student they pull from publics, they would be required take two problem kids, and a non athlete

for the star player. If the interest is really for the betterment of

kids, then take some of those disadvantaged as well. Nah!

Grunt, Old Pirate says great point. However, how often do you hear of a scholar student being pursued?

Old school teaches us that this world is full of all types and kinds of people and we all need to be able co-exsist with every type, color or religious back ground. We attempt to shelter our kids and that is understandable. However are they gaining some skills needed in the REAL world?

Thats a good point OP... I've never heard of a scholar student being pursued or recruited like athletes do (other than some colleges) and I know a bunch of scholar students being 1 when I was in school!

This topic/link was set up as an unofficial poll to just vote on a public/priviate split. I thought there was already a link to discuss your position either way? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I don't think so there is one about fair play and there is one about multiplier, but not one about a public/private split for or against except for this one and it is getting interesting and I've still haven't gotten my GOOD REASON!!! I know why I haven't cause there isn't one!!!

Actually, that is why some of the D1 privates are in D1. For example, it is in MBA's charter that the underpriviledged will be served with a scholarships. Casting aside the athletic scholarship rule was something they literally could not do. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe….i drove the lawnmower down to practice today…….hmmmm…… we got some new faces………. One can run faster than my lawnmower in fifth gear…… a few will be disappointed come November that they jumped ship and went down to that sewage facility……. You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
