Indian
Were these put together by the TSSAA or by the Tennessean?
riverdaleman
ok coach i see we lost lebanon...who advances to playoffs and how does this effect RIVERDALE...after looking at it i find it funny that they put WC in our bracket instead of Lebanon...WC is closer to sumner county and lebanon and WC in the same county are no longer in the same district
JtDL
"Gatlinburg" is misspelled, but otherwise I like our new matchups. I'm tired of driving to Chuckey-Doak and Sullivan Co. I'm pretty sure this was put together by The Tennessean, but it should be close enough to let discussion start.
The Drunken Sailor
The biggest question of all is WHAT WILL THIS DO TO THE COACH T SUBFORUMS???? /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />
Footballfan15
They will have to be redone.
ksgovols
In Class AA District 10, there is CPA with an actual 2006 enrollment of 310 and Stratford (my alma mater by the way) with a 2006 enrollment of 1,036. I am sure there are more extreme examples but does this pairing make any sense to anyone. I also wonder with the wild card rules where CPA will find 6 non-district opponents I hope Riverdale, MBA, etc. have open dates. Just my two cents. For Harpeth, playing the traditional district foes from basketball and baseball in football has been what we've wanted for years. It will also be our 3rd football realignment in 4 years. The question I have is how will the districts heavy to the strong class affect the district schools with lower enrollments at playoff time? Will there then be a premium on wins in non-district games to make playoffs? For my school's particular situation, this is much better than the previous 2 districts we've been in football wise. The natural rivalries from every other sport that are built over the years are finally here in football too.
LSMFT
Why are the football coaches the only ones gripping about the classification? Isn't this almost exactly what basketball, baseball and softball have been playing for YEARS!
Bighurt
ksgovols, I thought about this a little more - always a dicey process - so I am re-submitting my post. This reclassification makes sense if the goal is to reduce travel costs. However, I thought the justification for creating D2 and the multiplier was to level the playing field. By the way, reducing travel costs never seemed to be a issue when D2 was formed and apparently it still isn't in that division. It appears that the BOC is like the child who constantly changes his story to justify his misbehavior. It still does make sense to me to put CPA (310 students) and Stratford (1,036 students) in the same district but I digress. Random thought - When the proposal go from 5 classes to 6 classes? The posting on tssaa.org - Classification Possibilities for 2009-2012 - still says 5 classes. JMHO, BH
ksgovols
Quite right Bighurt. It is hypocritical to quote travel expenses as the reasoning behind the current classification and force DII to travel all over the state for 'district' games. I'm in favor of building and maintaining rivalries that are across the board in all sports. It's never made sense to me to treat football as different. I imagine it's because it's the money maker at playoff time. There are undeniably differences between public/private, open zone/closed zone, financial aid/no aid, but after all these years I'm not sure anyone knows how to quantify them. From that standpoint I'm in favor of a merit system. As it is today, I think DII should play whatever schedule they want to play and come up with a formula for seeding at playoff time and forget about regions. As far as the 6 classes at playoff time, that kind of has some symmetry to it and more $$$! Seriously, I hope it will induce more small schools to start football, like Culleoka. Gambler
Depending on how this works out this may be the final step in the TSSAA staying intact with the private schools leaving on their own. I could be wrong but only time will tell. However I think in the end the following schools will prevail as they have in all the other recent changes to try to level the playing field: Riverdale, Hillsboro, Lipscomb, Goodpasture, Alcoa, South Pitt, and Maryville. Year in year out those schools are in the top ten in the state and that wont change no matter what the format is. Although I am not a fan of the plan I do see the following positives. Obviously lesser traveling cost and time. More gate money due to the schools being closer together. Now it will be interesting to see how coaches do their out of conference scheduling and if coaches will have to travel long distances to get quality games to help with the wild cards. ksgovols
The other thing it looked like was affected was where you go in the playoffs. It appears our district will be paired with the one to the east rather than the one to the west or as our basketball coach stated, 'We play to the east instead of west in region 2 and 3 years ago, and our chances of going to state are much improved.'
