Thoughts from the game......

-Heritage looked about as unorganized in the 2nd half as I have ever seen a team. They only had 10 on the field for Maryville's final score and then the long snapper didn't know they were punting? What gives?

-Maryville can't sleep walk through games. They are going to have to start out focused in the first half.

-Maryville needs to work on the downfield passing game to make another December run.

-That said - opposing coaches, please keep playing a Cover 3 against them as I'll take a 8-12 yard gain every play when you leave the flats wide open. Three games in a row I've seen it.

-I really, really, really hate the wing-T.

Totally agree with the post by Solomon. Maryville cannot just "show up" this year and win football games. Defense continues to play great and run game is solid. Still not consistent execution on the passing game though, especially vertically. That needs to get fixed or sooner or later it will rear its head.

Kinda had the feeling the game would go this way but it was just my gut. Heritage was at home and tired of being trampled by Maryville. They showed up the first half to play and Maryville was going through the motions but once focused quickly showed what they are capable of doing. Hey these are kids subject to emotional swings and this is not the last team that is going to come out swinging at Maryville. Like Solomon said they have to be prepared for this from jump street. Maryville proved they got it when it counts. Good win for them and now GQ can remind them of this first half effort before they play Powell and maybe that will keep them focused. Congrats Rebels!

That Heritage team was the most classless team I have seen in a long time.

I'm not real sure why you think that? From where I was sitting at the game it looked like a hard nosed high school football game. I don't t remember any personal fouls been called on either team. So what made Heritage so classless?

I would like to kow...Please respond? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Finally someone who agrees with me. Im curious did any of heritage's Offensive lineman throw any shots to the nuts of Maryville's Defense. Or did there fans chant jeers targeting a player's father's job?

first off, my son plays ol/dl for heritage he has never said anything about nut shots. I'm not saying it dont happen, but he knows that stuff wont fly! If you cant be a sportsman and play a clean, headbusting game of football ,you dont need to be out there. Thats the way he was raised, but some were not. As for the Heritage fans chanting about a parents job I would hope that wasnt the adults. I was there at all games and never heard any of it, but it could have been the student section which I think needs to be controled much better than they are. They have a tendancy to get very rude and disrespectful as most student sections do at most schools. My point is you have jerks everywhere, dont down all players or all fans for the ignorence of a few.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
