The last time David Pack coached a game at CPA was Week 10 in 2003, with his CPA team hosting FRA. The lions crushed the Panthers 58-6. This time, in week 4 of 2008, he returns for the first time as the head coach of FRA, hoping to build the program back to the likes of when they were successful in the 90's and early 2000's, when he battled against them year in and year out as CPA's head coach.

The question this year is what team is FRA? are they the team that got held to one score by Cannon Co.? or are they the team that just barely lost to Goodpasture? Or are both true, and Goodpasture is really down this year? CPA has struggled so far with a record of 1-2, but those losses coming from much tougher competition (DII teams) than FRA's 3 losses. CPA lost a close one this past week with ECS, and the 7 starters out with injuries for CPA sure didn't look like it helped them. However, CPA is still considered a top-2 team in region 5-AA, and with Goodpasture's inconsistency, it would not be a big surprise if they won it straight out. As Coach David pack walks with his team from the visitor locker room to the visitor sideline, both of which he built, I can only imagine what will be going through his head. A rivalry renewed? Only if FRA can compete, though the Pack situation sure adds some spice!

Scores since CPA's first year of football: (David Pack at CPA from 1996-2003)

2007- FRA 0 / CPA 44

2006- CPA 56 / FRA 0

2005- FRA 0 / CPA 33

2004- CPA 28 / FRA 7

2003- FRA 6 / CPA 58

2002- FRA 14 / CPA 41

2001- CPA 17 / FRA 0

2000- FRA 12 / CPA 13

1999- CPA 43 / FRA 3

1998- FRA 14 / CPA 21

1997- CPA 14 / FRA 23

1996- CPA 24 / FRA 6

1995- FRA 47 / CPA 36

1994- FRA 28 / CPA 7

1993- FRA 43 / CPA 12

Combined 392-72 points in CPA's favor since the first game with Coach Pack.

161-7 from 2004-present under Coach Jay Mathews.

I'll say:

CPA 30

FRA 6

It was early 90's when CPA started Football, the earliest season I can find is 1993 when they went 2-8 beating only Nashville Christian and TPS. I am not sure if the program started a year or two before that though.

Just curious; what year did CPA begin football? I remember reading articles in the Tennessean about their new program but I can't remember if it was late 80's or early 90's?

1993 was our first season.

1993 was first year. Pack came in 1997, won 2 state 1A championships in 2000 and 2002, left after 2003 season and took a non-football job at Ensworth. He promised he would not coach against his former players at CPA. He didn't, but as soon as his last CPA freshmen class graduated, he became assistant coach at Ensworth, and coached against CPA last year. Mathews came to CPA in 2004, and is still coach, and a very good one.

One small correction for 1997

FRA beat CPA in the regular season by a score of 23-14. The score of CPA 14 FRA 10 was in the playoffs on the hill. CPA won it with seconds remaining with a Hunter Daniel Touchdown.

The 1997 regular season win by FRA was the last time that CPA lost to FRA , although it came real close in the 2000 season in the dying seconds with a failed field goal attempt.
