I have never, ever, in my life seen nor heard that the Jo Byrns name was an obstacle...much less the MAIN obstacle in a ball game! I don't know what to think of it. I'd hate to know JB was held in the same regerd as an "ABC private" - other than maybe on the field - 'cause I can't stand 'em. On the other hand, I guess you could say that the JB name is being heralded among the likes of TC or SP , and someday I wouldn't mind that...but JB has not earned that yet, so what's there to be scared of? It's just little ol' "joe burns"that graduated all the talent from last year, and the year before, and the year before, etc....right?

You would really have to be from or have followed Chapel Hill to understand the analogy that was being made. Before we moved to this new regional alignment we had long standing rivalries with schools like Wayne County, Collinwood, Cornersville, Huntland, Cascade, Mt. Pleasant, CA but the best team year in and year out was Moore County. We would have spectacular seasons and but all the teams were fighting for 2,3,4. By the time I was leaving it was more of a mental thing than an actual talent difference. This is the comparison that is being made. Jo Byrns is this regions Moore County. Year in and year out Jo Byrns fields a top-notched program, and last year was no different. The game between the schools was when Jo Byrns was ranked number 1 in 1A if I remember correctly. Since I have been following high school football I see Jo Byrns name in the AP Top 10 with regularity. With all that being said, I do not see any reason why JB would not be regarded as one of the top notch single A programs in the state. However, graduation hit you hard last year. Your QB was a great player, along with the backs and receiver. Either JB has been playing down to it's competition thus far, the teams in the region are finally getting better, or JB's talent level is down. I guess we will find out which one on Friday night.

Does Forrest have a press box on the visitors side?

No.

Is there a spot for the visitors to film the game?

Yes their own room. We finally got rid of the old "everybody in the same area" press box. I don't know if I'll make the climb to the press box or not, probably not, since I'd like to meet you guys at the concession stand before the game if possible. It takes me A LONG time to clinb those steps. Especially with a big crowd, which I look for one Friday night. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Unfortunately, I do not belong to the Lions Club. But I did tell the Vice Principal if we hit the lottery I'd make a ramp that went behind the bleachers attached to the one there now that went up to the press box. An elevator would be better, but ramp is cheaper. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

You need to talk to my buddy, Dennis Herron, over there. He's pretty good at rounding money up.. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Yeah!! Maybe Saturn would feel sorry for me!! Why don't you ask him if he's your buddy? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Dennis is a great guy, His daughter, Brooke played for me for a few tournaments this summer and he helped me coach while she played. I value the friendship too much to make requests like that. I'm sure times are tough over at Saturn right now. They are everywhere else.

I was just kidding, silly. I'd never ask for anything like that for myself. Now if WE had the money, I'd get it from hubby for sure. But times are hard everywhere. I'm just proud of our stadium for the kids' sake. They work hard and deserve a nice place to play.

Jo Byrns does tend to play to the talent level of the opponent. We did lose some dang good football players. The talent we've had at Jo Byrns over the last 4 or 5 years is almost unheard of in a small 1A school. We have a great deal of talent this year also. We are solid at all the skilled positions. The biggest difference is, as you stated, the loss of Shane Spann at QB. I'm not taking anything away from Scott Adkins. He has come a long have and is doing a good job for Jo Byrns this year. Shane had the talent of a 5a qb playing at a 1a school so naturally you are gonna miss that. Friday night will let us know where we are as a football team.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
