FRESHMEN

I know here in Blount County we have some very talented freshman.

Alcoa- Vanderbilt "V" Hambrick is probably the fastest back in the county. Great hands and very shifty. Chaz Vesser at receiver. Zach Chapman is a beast at fullback. Several good line too.

Maryville- As mantioned Jacob West is huge for a freshman running back. He has great vision and speed. At QB is Patton Robinett, he is going to be a great Maryville QB. He can run and trow. ColbyTate and Brandon Guy are great lineman. Very fast and strong.

Heritage- Start with Matt Plummer at QB, he is getting some snaps with the varsity and runs the JV offense.

Running back Chase Cline has turned in some solid play on Monday nights. He's quick and shifty and don't care to run through you if he has to, also plays corner on defense.

Luke Eldridge is as solid at LB and O-line as any other freshman in the area. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

William Blount- The QB is a great athlete and they have a very stonge line. Mike Brown anchors that unit.

Gooder points scoot91......West is tha furst RB/LB two play this much this early......Guy is playin haif tha time at OT....Tha upside fer Mairvul's freshman class is off tha charts... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I will have to agree. If Maryville don't get beat this season it will be along time before someone gets them. The freshman class is that good and talented. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I'm glad to hear that Maryville uses it's talents no matter the grade level. I wish other schools in the area would take notes on how that works. The more you play young kids the better they will be as Jr's & Sr's.

Hardin Valley Academy's freshmen team has a lot of room for improvement, but to see where they came from at the beginning of the season and where they are now is pretty substantial!

They definitely have a HUGE coaching advantage: It is my understanding that their varsity coaches have been coaching not only the JV team, but also the Freshmen team, since they do not have a varsity team this year. Their coaching staff is definitely one to talk about so...if those freshmen can continue with the same coaches for 4 years....I think HVA could be pretty darn good!

MBA's frosh knocked the snot out of franklin co, blackman, cookeville, and put up 24 points on indy in the 4th to beat them. Very strong group. Has a stable full of runningbacks and a great qb in Aaron Simonis. They also have a 6'8 tight end elliot watts and a 6'2 wr with a 34 inch verticle in Austin Blackwell. They have a good sized line and a strong linebacking corps. Well coached and well conditioned. They play Smyrna thursday who is maybe the best freshman team in the state.

Seen'em both. Should be a very evenly matched game. Where is the game going to be played? I think Smyrna has a little more flash. But MBA is tuff as nails. Smyrna's kicker has a big leg, kickoffs in the endzone.

If it's at Smyrna I may go.

Coach Miller has a nice group of Freshmen at Southwind High. They have a pretty good quarterback named Matt Lucas 'bout 5'7/5'8 right now. Their offensive weapons are a hard nosed fullback Kendall Williams and 6'2 Jonathon Baker. Not to mention 5'11 Steven James a transfer from Texas with soft hands and he's at least 220. 5'9 Dedrick Jones is the return specialist and had over 150 all purpose yards against Bartlett. Steven Johnson and Keante Turner are the standouts on defense. They're moving Johnson around quite a bit and might put the 6'0, 196 kid at Middle Linebacker and Keante is a pretty good weakside End right now. They play Arlington this thursaday and last year the two teams battled to a 36-28 Southwind victory so it should be pretty good.

Insider52:

When will Southwind be a considered a full fledge varsity team ... next year? Will Southwind be in 7-5A or 8-5A? If memory serves me correctly ... Arlington was recently added to 7-5A so Southwind will be added to 8-5A. This will be very interesting to see how coach Miller's first varsity squad does in region play as an official TSSAA team. I've seen some of Southwind's opponents and he's not scheduling cupcakes. Good exposure for his young team. They will come into the region battle tested.

I do understand that freshmen do not get much exposure, but any talent in the '12 class worth talking about?

This kid is not a freshman but I have been blown away at how good and calm this kid is in the pocket. The kid is Ty Presley from Hunter Middle in Ooltewah, TN and he will be one to take note of. I have seen him play several times over the past couple of years. He is a tall kid with a great arm and is extremely accurate passing. Last night he hit at least 12 receivers in the hands and they dropped the ball. If they did not, they would have blown out another good Chattanooga middle school team. In my opinion, he is the best I have seen come through Hunter and they have produced some of Ooltewah's greatest athlete's. Just look at former Hunter players like Ooltewah High Schools junior #36 Jaquez Smith (High D1 Recruit) and soon to be all-state kicker junior #16 John Long. There have been plenty more and I am sure it will not stop with Ty. Just remember that name and say you heard it here first.

My prediction... He will be Ooltewah's starting QB when he is a Sophmore.

Who do you think were MBA's strong players and visa-versa? MBA is going to have to pull a tough one out. Their starting runningback is hurt as long with their starting cb. The 2nd string rb who gets at least 50% of carries is out too. Also the starting fullback and middle linebacker supposively has a broken back so I doubt he will play. I have a few freinds at MBA so this information should be pretty accurate. I've heard Smyrna is a good team. I'd like to come and watch this also.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
