Clinton vs Halls

I'm going to pick Clinton over Halls. Clinton's offense seems to have it together. The new kid, Martin, has fit in perfectly with the team. He had a sick amount of yards against South Doyle. Sorry to see Hazelhurst go out to see him get the carries though. We've got some pretty quick WR's, use them too! I would like to see the defense kick it up a little bit, raise up off the line and push 'em back, give Stone a little more breathing room. The W against Oak Ridge may have been the boost that Clinton needed.

Hope to see Weston back before the end of the season. He is a great player!!

LET'S GO DRAGONS!!!!

baseballmad,

I would go to the store and stock up life jackets and canoes, cause I think if we loose to Clinton the doo doo will hit the fan. I think Coach J is calling the defense and they have played OK this year. Now I know somebody is going to point out that we have given up far less yards and points than at this time last year. But let me point this out to ya, if they don't score we aint going to loose. Defense is to STOP the other team. Offense is to SCORE on the other team.

Looking back on Ironmans posts he has been on the mark on whats going on. Why would we change what worked last year. It just doesn't make any sense.

I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet because word on the street is Oak Ridge is pretty bad this year and have no were near the D we have. A Maryville buddy of mine said there preseason scrimmage was painful to watch. But if this game is a track meet I can't see us keeping up on the scoreboard with the Dragons.

I notice Caleb had another good game on D. We need him 100%

1. GET RID OF THE "LOOP" T. The first change (and for those who don't know, coach Williams changed virtually every play we had, plus added in his new stuff) I would make is fix the loop. Our RB's are taught to loop back behind the line this year. Coach Ward had all the action going quick and forward. Williams has asked the RB's to "loop" back. Thus, many plays this year have lost yardage and when holes are present, backs are too far away to get to them.

2. GIVE THE SR A CHANCE! -

The loop de loop de loop T!! (LDLDL for short). Thats great as you can see by my use of 2 !! The LDLDL is the pipqueak's (PQ) brain-child. He is a genius. Unlike the wing T which Catholic and Webb run, the LDLDL is a different more rocket scienced based offense. While the wing T relies on hiding the ball and hitting the hole as quickly as you can to get positive yardage, the LDLDL relies on giving the defense as much time as possible to react to the ball and hit the RB in the backfield. But you must be asking yourself, "Self, how does this make sense? Moronicus doesn't know a thing about football and genius offensive scheming. Tell him to shut up and stop being so contrary." Well, tell yourself to quit being so impertinent in the first place, and then explain to him that he doesn't understand modern, Playstation based offensive scheming. You see, and even if you don't, the PQ has figured out that the defense will be so rattled by the stupidity of the LDLDL, they will miss the tackle as they laugh uproariously and bend over with the cramps. Just give your Moronicus brotha a chance; hey, give peace a chance.

I remember the LDLDL offense!!! Williams and Catlett installed it at Clinton around 1999, and they ran it up until 2004 when Catlett resigned in the middle of the year! During that time, Clinton backs were often hit in the backfield due to the genius offensive scheming.....Ahhh....Memories.

Can our (Halls) problems be fixed? Not if everything stays the same!! (definition of ignorance is to do the SAME thing over and over and expect a different result)

- Not counting Gibbs, Offense is scoring at about 12 points per game less than last year. Defense is giving up 17 points less per game than last year. Why can everyone execept the main person see the problem is on offense.

Let's start a wish list of changes. I'll start off with my top two:

- We decided to place the season on a SOPH's shoulders. He weighs 145 pounds, and we have to sub when we need a block. #21 has two carries, and #3 can run the ball and block. I said this before the Maryville game, and I'll say it again. We will not win many games relying on this SOPH. He is doing fine, but look at his TD's and 4th quarter production (8 total rushing yards in 6 ballgames). Rest him early, then watch the spark he can add to the team coming off the bench. Then he might be able to help his team in the 4th quarter.

Let's hear what the reast of you think. Losses by 3, 4, and 5 points have many fans disappointed. I DONT THINK PASSING ON EVERY DOWN, OR RUNNING ON EVERY DOWN WILL WORK. How about some balance throughout the game.

- Clinton would have to be favored right now by at least 17.

Watching the Titans game and still in a bad mood over close losses to West and Bearden I come across this post and I find myself finally seeing whats been different about this years version of our offense mainly on the running game. I've seen holes my grandma could run thru but we only get 6 yards or so a pop. Were are those breakaway scampers we had last year for Kitts and Waggy? This answers it all. Sharp focus Ironman you must be a parent of a runningback or lineman to see this clearly. I'll certainly watch if we change our stripes this week or continue on our road to nowhere.

You people are pretty big on Clinton this year. Well, I just can't appreciate them too much. Back in '78 there was an ole boy by the name of Don Ringer. Don could run the ball like nobody's business. I remember watching him run for 247 yards in a game, with a sprained ankle. That boy was tough as nails. After watching him, these kids today for Clinton don't cut the mustard.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
