Tournament time is here. I'm not sure there has been a Tournament that will be as hotly contested as the one this year. Circumstances throughout the district will mean rivalries will be high and since this is the last year the District will be configured like it is, schoolsnow will try to make a statement concering this last Tournament. IMO, very few schools think they don't have a chance to win it all and be one of the four schools that will go to the Region from this

District and compete with District 8 for the Region 4 Title. Its the time of year that those who are seniors realize its the last 7AAA Tournament they will play in and for those underclassman, its for the chance to be able to have bragging rights over the summer during summer league play and have a head start for next years season. For this year its a time for some schools its a time to play in 7AAA for the last time and remember allof the great rivalries with schools and players they have had in the past. And for those which will go on in the District

Warren County entered the Season with high expectations with a well regarded senior guard and a group of "young gunners" who had yet to make themselves know to the District but soon the Senior guard went down with a knee injury and left the WC team and fans somewhat dismayed and frustrated because their chances were reduced again this year with the omission of the player. It was tough for a few games but these younger players, Wilkinson, King, Clendenon and others tried to fill in the gaps but again they fell a little short in their play but show great promise for next year and as they go in to 6AAA

Oakland continued to have some difficulty this season but though a core of players like Randolph, Roper and Cook would give thema good start and they did. It became this team had defensive talent but had a few problems on the offensive end and it became evident when that jelled, they would do all right. This is today a good team which might possibly give someone a fit in this tournament and will be good to watch.

Siegel's seed in the Tournament became surprising after they had battled back from a slow start early in the season and reached fourth in the district and would up tied for fourth place only to be seeded 6th after loosing some games effecting the tiebreaker. This is a very young teams that has good upside with only 2 seniors and two bery good players in Cason an Connell who carried the team most of the year. Naish and Chatman got better during the year and an injury mid year to Burns, a top notch defensive specialist and Senior, did hurt the Stars effort. If they are hot, there is talent to cause some schools grief in the tournamet.

White County had very high expectionsat the first of the year and their record atsome time of theyear seemed to be 11-2 and playing some 8-9 players which would tell youthey were deep. Yslas, Wilson, Delaney, Roberts and others brought White to the forefront but late in the year, injuries kept them frombeing able to keep up the pace of the front runners. This is a team next year that should do well and in this tournament can be surprising because they can be explosive in their play. They are a good defensive team and will fight for a 4th place finish in the region.

Lebanon high School was unsure at the beginning of the season how the season would turn out. they had a great player and Athlete Icelyn Elie, one of the twin Towers at LHS and Basketball Signee with MTSU, back and her ability wasknown and they had numerous other players with talent along with a freshman team who had won the District the year before but the only thing missing was their coach that was not back the year before. So with a new coach and some willing players and a true super star IE, the team has had a good season and as Far a s this Tournament is concerned, Lebanon High School always has to be concerned with as long as there is an Elie playing there. Elie, Jennings, Coggins, Stafford and others made the school competitive and if Elie has a monster game, as she is capable, the team plays with about anyone and has the ability to beat any of the top teams. They are a dark horse in the Tournament.

Blackman has been good in years past and with one of the best Defensive coaches in the District, when you see them it is evident that is their forte. it has been evident if scoring was there, they would do well. This year, the scorers showed up and the team was led by Campbell, Dorsett, Hall, norris and Nowlin and the Blaze was Hot at the Furnace. While starting a little slow and playing 8-9 players a game, the team did jell and got better most of the year. With the above players playing good and Hall reamaining uninjured, this was a formative team able to beat anyone and likely might upset a school during the Tournament.

Riverdale, another one of the teams which lost their Coach last year, came into the year with very high expectations and while they lost one of their main rebounders Clarke, her replacement was certainly capable. Two transfers to riverdale were certainly good additions to the team. They had a good group coming back to help also. Barbee, a freshman, took the rebounder/scorers slot for Clark and along with Haisilip, Lanning, AZor,henry and others developed in to one of the best two schoos in the District. They and Cookeville are both favored to win the 7AAA District Tournament title.

Cookeville High School with Coach Mindy Odom, has been leaders in the District in Basketball for a number of years.During those years, the last four, she has had Erin Helton, a 6' plus post player/ rebounder who certainly was a ggreat player and helped her have the record she has. This year Helton, Johnson and Brooks carried Cookeville to its7AAA regular season title. and along ghe way, Coach Odomwhenshe needed brought other players off the bench to help. One of the top teams in the state in Strength of Schedule/Success, cookeville has a good team. It along with Riverdale is favored to win the Tournament and likely the same two is favored to win the Region. riverdale and Cookeville are real rivals and anytime you see there two playing each other, make sure you are ther to see the fireworks.

So thats a thumbnail sketch of the District play and tournament and players to watch and it will be a great tournament, one which you will like to see.

Three great games tonight in 7AAA when District schools go outside and play top Schools in District 8 and 9 and with the play comes exposure to some of the best players in the State which the fans in Lebanon and Murfreesboro have the opportunity to see.

Smyrna @ Blackman

Smyrna High School, one of the top teams in District i9 goes to Blackman and plays in the furnace tonight and it is ian opportunity to see Blackman play against some of the top players in the State Dyman Raynor. Lineups for Smyrna are:

33 Adams

5 Drayan

15 Hayton

30 Moore

22 Raynor

23katieWilliams

Well, two out of threei is not bad. The game after the last District game is a tradition in 7AAA. Lebanon is usually Wilson Central, Riverdale is usually Shelbyville and I can't remember Smyrna playing blackman but they may have. Anyway there three games were outstanding games.

Lebanon was behind at half and someone challenged LHS. They were ahead by 10at the end of the third quarter and won 57-57 with one of those late season thrillers. And yes, the remaining tower did it again with a lot of help from her team mates. I. Elie got 25, lamberson got 8, Coggins 6 and peyton 5 for LHS. Wilson Central got 16 from J. Hassell and 13 from Peterson.

Riverdale beat Shelbyville 56-51 and for RD, Barbee got10, Haisilip got 18 and Henry got 15, For Shelbyville, Dawson got 13, Johnson got 11 and Philips got 13.

Smyrna beat Blackman 58-42 as Smyrna scored too many points for Blackman. For Blackman, Campbell got 11 and Norris got 7. for Smyrna Raymor got 12 and Williams got 12.

great win by my LADY WARRIORS tonight and a quality win and now the season starts its tournament time

I think we play oakland first so we must take care of them right off the bat a loss here and we are elminated so lets take care of the business at hand I have an appointment at 6 in goodletsville so i am going to HURRY and try and get that done so i can get back in time to at least watch the 3rd and 4th QTR

as far as the shelbyville game i am real happy with our overall team and our unselfishness ashley henry has really improved an example in the early part of the game she would beat her girl and get a good shot off and early in the season instead of shooting she would pass now she is shooting the open shot and that opens up Jaclissa and Nataile and the other shooters now we beat shelbyville today but it doesnt matter come next week so Lets focus on oakland and get that win and then try and win the district tournament IA CANT WAIT

GO LADY WARRIORS

Smyrna did score too many points for Blackman to succeed. I thought Blackman did a pretty good job the first quarter. It pretty much got out of hand after that. The Lady Blaze made too many errors with the ball leading into half. Smyrna did a good job of capitalizing on those misques. Smyrna did a good job of extending the defense and took away any decent 3 point looks. Blackman collapsed the defense on Dymon and the threes rained from the heavens for Smyrna. Anticipation in the passing lanes seemed off tonight as well. Not the senior night they wanted, but glad to see the seniors in the stat book.

Congrats to Lebanon for their 10 point victory over Wilson Central, 57 - 47, tonight.

Air, I remember a post about Lebanon and the Tournament and my years were wrong but this will be the 3rd year now LHS seems to be on a roll. The win at Cookeville was a"Wonder what Happened" situation but it was with an exclamation point. This one again is with another exclamation point even according to Wilson supporters. Your coach has done a good job even coming in a little late as she did this year. She must have worked hard. I.Elie "The Tower of Lebanon" I know did work hard and as someone posted she played possessed. So now we are back down to earth. The White County Caravan rolls in to Lebanon Thursday afternoon and it will be a fantastic game.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
