A subjective list has been created noting Games of Significance and Historical Value in the Lipscomb Football program since 1967 when the team and sport was re-instituted and posted on The Mustangfanpage. Prior to 1967, the last game the Mustangs played in was in 1938.

You may want to check the list to see if you or possibly a family member played against Lipscomb in one of these games noted. Click Here for the Direct Link to the page.

The compilation is now complete thru the 2008 season. Comments, additions and corrections are now being added.

The list includes Lipscomb's affiliation with schools in the old Nashville Interscholastic League, Class A Football, Members of Class 2A, and Class 3A. Read about the good and the bad of games past.

Some of the interesting stories included:

1970: Lipscomb coach in hospital sending phone messages to the sidelines during the game against Cohn High School.

No cell phones in those days.

1975: A post game brawl with Joelton High School (Caught on Film)

1989: Brentwood Academy's Carlton Flatt's run in with a Lipscomb Dad (on the Chain Gang) during the game during Hurricane Hugo.

1995: Lightening Strikes at Union City High School

2000: When Time Stood Still at Marshall County

2000: Lipscomb back fumbles 6 times against White House

2002: Lipscomb scores for Sweetwater

2005: Lexington High School fans completely fills up Lipscomb's stadium an hour before kickoff.

Lots of work went into this. Good job! It was an interesting read. I am not a Lipscomb supporter but have a lot of respect for the program. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the comments. Hoping more schools will want to provide historical information on their programs as well. I believe people are generally interested in the history of their respective schools and their opponents or past rivals.

Really enjoyed the reading. Interesting history. Flatt saying that...and the dad standing there.....classic. Question...Who won that one...J/K.

Appreciate the work and time that went into that.

Good luck next year.

Brentwood Academy won the game 7-0 as to the confrontation...after the collar grabbing...just some jawing about being from Bordeaux. However, the linebacker's dad was twice the size of Flatt. The incident was reported by Tennessean and a small blurb was found in USA Today. In 1972, Flatt also had a post game confrontation with the Lipscomb Coach at the time, Buck Dozier. Lipscomb won that game.

Vandy 1.... Great info you have there. I've often thought about doing something like this for Huntingdon. We're all proud of former alum that you have as a head coach. Coach Mac will be in the Hall of Fame someday and he is one of the best in the state. I have a friend that had a son on the 2002 team that won the title and last year was one of Coach Mac's best jobs. He pulled Fulton offsides twice in the title game against Fulton in the 4th quarter to keep the ball and secure the win. If the game had gone another 5 minutes I don't know if DL would have won..

I might add in the 2003 title game Huntingdon's Terrance Bell set a state title rushing record and the Huntingdon Mustangs tied another record with 6 interceptions. You may not want to put that on the DL history though. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
