roberts is best overall short stop IMO. he is big time at the plate.

You guys are homers. You are looking through tainted glasses. The best shortstops will be between the Washington County Schools and Tennessee High. Connell at Boone, Tarlton at Crockett, Thompson at Science Hill, and Payne at Tennessee High. 2 sophomores. Roberts and Crawford make too many errors. And don't give me those numbers that your guys keep. I am saying shortstop not batter. These four will lead the league in outs made versus errors made.

I saw Roberts make 5 errors in one game last year. Crawford tries to overthrow everything. Both are good and will make great plays but will make more errors than a shortstop should make.

Science Hill JV lost to Tennessee High JV 11-8. TH scored 8 runs in top of seventh. SH coaching was really bad. The first batter for SH got on base and SH sacrificed with their number 2 hitter. The first hitter is extremely fast, and the second hitter had a single, double, and home run in his next three at bats. They left the pitcher in in the 7th until TH was one run behind and the bases were loaded. The first pitch from the new pitcher was a wild pitch. I know I am a little old but it was hard to recognize what game the coaches were playing.

Science Hill freshmen lost to Tennesse High freshman 6-5 in six innings. Game called because of lateness. Again, wrong players playing wrong positions and not playing very fundamentally sound baseball. SH threw to the wrong base and didn't make the fundamental plays.

The Honky Tonk Man was wondering if you covered this with the coach? And if so is your kid still playing?

Science Hill has a very good farm system don't fool yourself.

Freshman JV 101: Winning does not matter to the coaches. All that matters is they find a player / or get a player ready for Varsity. Getting a Varsity player matters.

So you're pretty much answering who the best fielders are. Not shortstops. I may be wrong but last time I checked, doesn't being a good player no matter what the position require you to be able to hit too?

I know that a win or loss doesn't mean much at this level, but over the long haul building a winning tradition early does. The win or loss doesn't bother me, but not playing good, fundamental baseball does. There's a lot more than throwing, hitting, and catching the ball. Throwing to the right base, hitting behind the runner to move the runner to third, anticipating where the play is going to be, not taking the bat out of the better hitters' hands will not lead to a winning tradition.

I know that the lower level football and basketball teams spend a whole lot of time on the fundamentals. I only wish that baseball would too. A sacrifice bunt with one out early in the game early in the game with your better hitters is not good baseball.

The SH JV beat East 4-2. Both pitchers did a good job. SH just had too many weapons for East--a little faster and a little better hitting. Pretty good game to watch. Not too many players' or coaches' errors.

The SH Freshmen beat East 7-4. SH pitchers started out a little whobbly, but shut East down after the first inning. SH outfield and hitting was a little weak. East pitcher did a good job for four innings and ran out of steam. The second East pitcher had trouble getting the ball over the plate.

It also helps to pitch true varsity pitchers when you need to,in conference games where it counts.

You are wrong about Roberts having 5 errors in one game. You shouldn't spread misinformation. Frogger and Tricitiessportsfan said best OVERALL SS and and that does include hitting. You can't win if you don't score.

Actually shortstop is a defensive position. Overall player is different than shortstop. Shortstop does not include hitting

I saw him make the errors whether the book said it or not. Roberts is a great overall player but not a great shortstop.

Crawford is def. the best SS in the conference and is really the only SS that is gettin D1 looks at short. Hits for very high average, prob. the fastest player in the conference ( 6.6 ) 60, and has a strong arm, and looks to be signing with ETSU. He is the only SS in the conf. that has to go back and forth between turf and grass as well. This isnt bein a homer its just facts. Roberts is a very good player as well, and hits very good for average and homeruns but we all know he doesnt have the arm to play D1 short stop but 2nd base definately.
