Who is the best Running Back in TN and why?

Carl Stewart 2001 AP and TSWA all state teams. MVP (off) Blue Cross Bowl, 1500+ yds 22 tds while as part of a duo (imagine if he was a single back) did not average more than 15-20 touches a game. #65 prospect in the nation according to Border Wars and the Insiders. Top prospect for Auburn. 3.9 GPA so no academic worries.

I think Felix is a solid pick.

Gallatin has a Sr. named Jaquez Williams. He goes 6'3"- 205lbs. I, by no means, think he is the best. But he has gotten looks from MTSU, Vandy, and UT.

3.6 GPA in Honors classes.

Also plays linebacker.

I could see him going somewhere as a strong safety or maybe as a linebacker.

But he is a solid back. Didn't have impressive #s last year because he split carriers with two other guys. This year he should get 20-25 touches a game.

I think the kid at Blackman(Turner?) is a good back also.

Last year when Red Bank came to Maryville in the semi's and many UT fans showed to see G. Riggs, the UT signee, they saw him shut down on every try. He carried about 35 times and got about 65 yards. Many asked who this Carl Stewert kid was. Watching the two backs one wonders if UT got the wrong back. Carl will have a great year behind Maryville's big and experienced line for sure.

If Carl Stewart played for Houston instead of Maryville...Houston wouldn't have been nearly as good, and I think any Germantown player would agree...but I think Stewart has a lot better future, its just one of those odd things (like sometimes a qb is great in one system, and just average in another).

Carl would be great on any team no matter what. Whether it was Alcoa, McGavok, Houston, Bolton, or Buckethead High. Kids like this are hard to doubt. He will be in the SEC next year mark my word. And if he went somewhere else his GPA would be 4.0+ instead of that crappy god-awful 3.9.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
