what does open zoned mean?

It means they will have a 'special' class like Basket Weaving that some good players from other schools will desperately need and want. This will especially apply to skill folks like QB's, RB's and WR's.

This will not be the first time in Rutherford County this has happened. Seems like the Gill and Shad connection is still strong if the rumor is true, and right now thats all it is.

Sort of. If it is truely open zoned then any student in the county may apply to attend as long as he/she can provide transportation. No need to take any "special" class. In metro Hillsboro, PC, Cane Ridge and others are open zoned. I believe Maryville and the memphis city schools are open zoned too and Im sure there are others.

Speaking of guys that made every better, Austin Murray got almost no mention last year but was just as stout on that defensive line as anybody. Buddy Mitchell is a good name to remember, but the one I am going to throw out that not many people know is Joell Keeling. Then again, with so many underclassmen, playing key minutes, its hard to single out 1 player for a breakout year. Zach Barnes, Lorenzo Elder, The entire offensive line, and Darius Coffey are all guys that I am pretty excited about

Thanks guys but can you tell me what posistions Barnes, Murray, Mitchell, Elder, & Coffey play? Also good to hear that you guys seem to already have a replacement, Dre Frazier, for those great running backs. So does this mean the offense next year will be passing more with a junior qb with exprience (btw whats his name?) and with an inexprienced rb playing most of the snaps? Or will the patriots run the same thing?

Barnes and Mitchell are key cogs in the secondary. Murray and Coffery play on the line, while Elder is at LB. QB is Christian Adams, who is also a pretty capable basketball player. As far as philosophy, I think it will be more of the same, but there will probably be some games that we may try to exploit a teams weakness and throw more than we usually do. Our identity is power football and I dont that will change. Dre and Tee got in a fair bit of snaps last year, so its not like these guys will be new to playing time.

People watch out for DRE! LOL This kid has every physical tool u could ask for. I've known him since he was in 2nd grade, and hes always be a great kid. ANOTHER LAscassas product lol.

Dre is a beast and is going to be a threat when he finds the ball.

Just like Buddy Mitchell will soon develop into the star athelete as BJ Nelson was this past year.

WOOOOOOOOOO who else is ready to get this show underway????

I am.....it is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy past time to see some popping of the pads.

I made a prediction about dre when he was a freshman. I saw two frosh games and predicted on the T that he could be one of the best to ever come out of Oakland. He impressed me so much in those two games. He has speed, style, strength......you name it. PLUS, he has NO FEAR and a great vision of the field. I know he is going to do great things this year!! Anyone know what he benches?

Station Camp is 4A. Not sure what we get out of a scrimmage against a team picked last and in a lower classification. They aren't an Alcoa.

At this point, your goal, more or less is self-evaluation as opposed to measuring yourself up to a particular team. By the same token, you wonder who would be willing to scrimmage Oakland. I think the current schedule proves that this coaching staff has no qualms about playing the best. I think Oakland will technically be better all across the board, no whether that equals to a better record, I couldnt really tell you.

I wasn't downing our coaches for scheduling Station Camp if you took it that way, OP. I do realize that some of the teams that we usually scrimmage are now in our regular season line-up. I also know that defending state champs aren't on anyone's "let's scrimmage them" list.

We rolled all over SC, and I doubt it helped them ( SC) too much to take such a beating by a school in a higher classification. I guess kudos to them for having the courage to take us on though.

    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
