Kyzer, Lady Mocs Soccer Sign Five, Including Kelly Downs

Chattanooga women??™s soccer head coach J.D. Kyzer announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on National Signing Day for soccer.

 

???I??™m very impressed with the level of talent,??? Kyzer said. ???This class will be able to step in and contribute immediately.???

 

Of Kyzer??™s signees, one is currently enrolled at UTC after transferring from Middle Tennessee and three played on the same TNFC 91 Club Futbol team.

 

???I??™m excited about the benefits they will bring to the table,??? Kyzer said.

 

 

Kelly Downs ??? Transfer ??? Forward ??? 5-6 ??? Hixson, Tenn. ??? Soddy Daisy High School

 

Topping the signing class is Hixson native Kelly Downs, a junior, who transferred from Middle Tennessee State at the semester break. Over her two years at MTSU, she played in all 40 games for the Blue Raiders and started 24. She scored five goals and tallied two assists. She made her first career start against East Tennessee State and scored her first collegiate goal, the game-winner. She notched her first career multi-goal game with two in the Blue Raiders 3-1 win over UALR.

 

At Soddy Daisy High School, Downs averaged 20 goals per season and was rated one of the state??™s top players by various recruiting services. She was a two-time All-State selection and named All-Region in 2004. She was a four-time Chattanooga Times Free Press Best of Preps selection with two first team nods.

 

Downs set a school record for goals in 2004 and established a new standard for assists in 2005. She played club soccer for Redoubt and was selected to the Tennessee State ODP team 2001-06. She is the daughter of Joe and Vanessa Downs.

 

 

Heather Trumbo ??? Back ??? 5-7 ??? Nashville, Tenn. ??? Hillwood High School

 

Heather was a four-year letterwinner for the Toppers at center defense and center midfield. She played for the TNFC 91 Blue club soccer team for Chris Price and her team advanced to the Region quarterfinals. She is the daughter of Glenn and Angela Trumbo.

 

 

Hayley Sloan ??? Striker ??? 5-1 ??? Murfreesboro, Tenn. ??? Siegel High School

 

Hayley helped lead the Siegel Stars to the 2008 Tennessee State Championship and a 19-4-1 overall record. In both 2006 and 2007, Siegel advanced to the Final Four. In her four years at Siegel, the Stars were four-time Sectional Champs, three-time Region 4 Champs, three-time District 7 Tournament Champions and three-time District 7 Regular Season champs. On the academic side, the Stars were NSCAA Team Academic Award winners.

 

She is an All-Mid State, All-Region and All-District athlete and Team Offensive Player of the Year. Through three years, Sloan 46 goals and tallied 18 assists. On her TNFC 91 Club team, she played striker and her team advanced to the state semifinals in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Her team won the Region III Central Premier League and Sloan finished first in points standings for most goals and assists. She was a three-time selection to the Tennessee State ODP team. She is the daughter of Ben and Barbara Sloan.

 

 

Lauren Wilson ??? Midfielder ??? 5-9 ??? Columbia, Tenn. ??? Columbia Central High School

 

Played center midfield for Columbia Central High School. She played club ball for the TNFC 91 Club team and they advanced to the state semifinals in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Her team won the Region III Central Premier League She is the daughter of Brad and Amy Wilson.

 

 

Anna Cusick ??? Midfielder ??? 5-3 ??? Norcross, Ga. ??? Norcross High School

 

Anna played forward and midfield for Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga. In her junior year, she was named captain of her team and was a letterwinner. In 2007, she was selected the Offensive MVP and helped lead her team to the 2007 region championship. Her team earned a 5-A ???Top Ten??? final ranking in 2006 and 2007 and a ???Top 15??? final ranking in 2008. She played Club ball for the Norcross ??™91 Blue and was named captain. She helped lead her team to the 2007 Norcross Cup. She is the daughter of Richard and Laura Cusick.
