Both Polk and Central are good teams, no doubt about that. To say they have a chance to go all the way is pushing it. I have seen both teams play, Polk is great unless they have to play the baby blue. Central is great when their top shooters are hot. Centrals defence is amazing, but all it takes is one team that can beat that great press they have and cause the baby blue to make some mistakes and their run is done. The #1 question will they meet a team that can do that? Good luck to both teams!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

To say it would be pushing it for the Chargerettes go all the way is still something I do not understand. I do understand that the games have to be played, but with senior leadership on their side they will reach down a little more this year. Should have won the semi-last year, and girl from Marshall made a huge shot at the end of the game. EXPERIENCE counts for a lot.

Being outshot by almost 20 at the free throw line didn't help us any last year against Marshall County. Anything can happen from the substate on. Hume-Fogg took down Marshall County tonight, and I'd bet very few people saw that coming. One game at a time....

McMinn Central has had several talented teams over the last decade and has yet to win a State Championship. What makes this year any different? In my opinion, their coach is not good enough to win it. He has won his games over the years by having more talent. He can't beat the good teams at the state tournament

wow another idiot to come in and write something stupid to mess a good thread up

Outshot at the free throw line?? Sounds familiar. Did you happen to catch the boys game Saturday? 37-7 advantage Chattanooga Christian /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> but back on subject... I think the girls have a good chance IF they keep there heads on straight and dont get too cocky as ive heard a few of them talking already...

Wow!!! You might want to check his carrer record. Not good enough, bull. They have played some great teams close is state tournaments - he might get his this year. If not still a great coach, and good man.

I didn't say he was not a good coach...I said "he wasn't good enough" Playing some great teams CLOSE in the state tournament is exactly my point- Getting close doesn't count! His track record over the years has them losing in the sub-state or state tournament to equal or better teams. I just don't think he is a good enough coach to beat equal or better teams when it counts. I also think they've had enough talent over the years to win a State Championship at the AA level. Personally, I think the weak schedule they play year in and year out hurts them come March. What good holiday tournaments have they played in to get them ready for the state tournament? Lenoir City Classic, Times Freepress...those are really tough! What makes this team and coach any different? Not bashing just putting out the some facts.

loyalcharger,

"Idiot" "Write something stupid" Wow, I didn't realize that giving my opinion on why I think McMinn Central will not will the state championship makes me an idiot. Maybe I should think the same about you for thinking they will win it? I realize you are a "loyalcharger" but lets think clearly here.

Let me say it again "McMinn Central has had several teams over the years that were talented enough to win a AA state championship, but the fact of the matter is they have not won one yet" Why should I think this year will be any different? If you can give me some concrete facts or evidence that proves this statement to be wrong then let me hear it. Otherwise, stop the name calling because sometimes the TRUTH hurts! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

My problem is not your opinion, but to say Morgan is not a good coach is crazy. They have had opportunities to win games, but missed a shot or something. I have also seen Chargerettes in the past upset teams that they should not have beaten. It is very hard to go to a state tournament, and they have been their year after year. I hope he does win it to take the monkey off his back.

Sorry, did not see this post. I don't know how scheduling works, but I am sure that it is sometimes hard to get in to some these tournaments. I agree the better teams you play the better you get, so I will agree with this statement. Coaches may not be the best, but as long as they are the best they can be I am fine.

First of all, Central and Polk cannot even be compared on the same level simply because of the fact that the Chargerettes have wore them out on a consistent basis all year long... 3 times and make it 4 after Wednesday night! Central has a great chance for a run to the state title this year, but poor ole Polk... they should just feel lucky to make it as far as they have. I would hate to be a Polk fan and have to take the beating they are going to recieve from Upperman in the Sub-State game!

Whomever either team plays in the sub-state, they need to be ready. Livingston Academy has played the toughest schedule in the state and fared pretty well. Upperman has played a tougher schedule than either Central or Polk and only have one loss. It's unfortunate that these four teams are in the same sectional because they are probably four of the five best teams left with the inclusion of Gibson. Just come ready to play.

Here is my opinion on why they may have a "real"shot this year.

1) Senior leadership, they play together very well

2) strength program showing signs of paying off

3) 10 deep with subs that really contribute

4) A real presense at the post position, something they never have had at the State Tournament

5) lot of experience at the guard position

6) last but not least... full court, man to man, in your face, borderline nasty DEFENSE, every night!!

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
