Congrats to Blackman on a GREAT season. This was District 7AAA's 4th place team. Way to represent 7AAA!!!

Sounds like it was an evenly matched game.

My congrats as well.

Truely a tale of two halves. Blackman came out strong and fast. Hand checkng by Overton was called the first half. Second half, nothing. Overton got a couple of jump calls by grabbing the girl, not the ball. First half evenly matched. Second half 8 on 5. There is no way Overton makes it by Hillsboro. Hillsboro by 15+.

It never fails, "It's the officials fault."

Congrats to Overton. I am old, I coached against Coach Rosser when he played at Overton.

Oh no. Blackman had their chances. Just a few of the free throws that they hit all season long but missed today would have made the diference. Blackman did not handle the press the second half well either.

Maybe I don't know the rules well but I really thought that you had to have a hand on the ball to get a jump ball called. When I grabbed a player by the waist, I usually had a foul called on me. To give them their due, maybe the officials thought that the Overton player was trying to help her up when the Blackman player was laying on the floor with her jersey streached up to the Overton players hand. You know, grab her shirt and just pull her up off the floor. If it's a foul the first half, why is it not the second half? I can take bad both ways. I overheard a set of fans from another school asking why they changed officials at half. Since they are from AA with no dog in the hunt, it wasn't just me that saw it that way. Even comments from the radio broadcasters. It doesn't make any difference now. The paper tomorrow will show Overton as the winner, but out of curiosity as a former coach, did you not notice any inconsistency?

With regard to Overton, I would love to say that my beloved Blaze were knocked out by the eventual state champion. They did play well when the game was on the line. But after watching Hillsboro play, I just don't think it is going to happen.

If it was 8 against 5, then this is the FIRST TIME in the history of the State Tournament that ANY Mphs team (girls or boys) has ever been the beneficiary of the refs. It's usually the other way around....so blatant that one had to wonder about some sort of perennial collusion/conspiracy against Mphs, come State playoff time.

If this did, in fact, happen.....then I say (with respect & apologies to Blackman's girls) IT'S ABOUT TIME that the refs scrreewed somebody OTHER than a Mphs team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
