trucko
Situation: 1 out, runners on 1st and 3rd, Fly ball to left field. Fly ball caught for out 2, runner on 3rd tags and crosses the plate. Runner on first may have been stealing and is rounding second as the fly ball is caught. The throw from the cut off beats the runner back to first for out 3. Does the run still count? bat r up
It is a force out at first. Run does not count.
dubc
It is a force out at first. Run does not count. I disagree with bat r up, I'm no ump, but my thoughts are that once the ball was caught by leftfielder, as out #2, the play is live, the runner on third safely tagged and scored, hence the throw to first was a fielders choice which eventually became the third out, therefore the run counts. Just my guess............good scenerio.....thanks for waking my brain this morning!

dore83
It is a force out at first. The run does not count. It isn't a force out. It would be a force out at 2B if it was a ground ball. cascade11 is correct. It is a timing play.
muffin
If runner touches home plate before the out is recorded at 1st base, the run counts.
MVM
It counts. But out of curiosity...Did the umps there NOT let it count? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Or should I ask,..Why are you asking? /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

I agree with cascade11 here. if the runner crossed the plate before the girl at first was out then the run counts. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
TBALLEXPERT
It is a force out at first. Run does not count. Sounds like a double play to end the inning, it is a force back at first no tag needed. Just because the runner on 3rd happens to get home before the throws makes it back to first doesn't matter. If the player on first had also tagged & was thrown out at second after the runner from 3rd crossed the plate the run would have counted. Hey, I could be wrong but thats how I see it. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

I think it became a fielders choice play. What was the runner on third suppose to do just stand and watch? Will look foward to an answer instead of all this guessing, and I ain't sure I'm right either!
bigchief
If the runner on first did not tag up, it is still a force play and therefore the run does not count. It does not matter if the throw in from left goes to every player on the field first, as long as it beats the runner back to 1st you have a force out. Inning over, no run scored.
