I have seen this young man since his College days at Maryville. As a player you could tell he would be a coach. Was always directing his teammates on where to be and what to do. Was a pretty darn good player. Yes he does play in the Rocky Top league and does a great job. I say that is a pretty neat thing, not too many coaches can do that. He would be a great hire for any of the openings around Knoxville especially those private schools.

AD Calvin Decker (great basketball coach Cherokee & Mo East)

& Prin. Gary Johnson both want a coach that will be there for 10 years or more.

They do not want to go through this hiring process every couple of years.

That has happened too often @ East.

Whoever is hired will have to prove they are going to stay.

Mr. Johnson wants this to be the last basketball coach that he has to hire.

The question is do you want a proven head coach with a long track record

or a young up and coming coach.

If you look TSSAA the request is for :

EXPERIENCE, MATURITY, knowledge of the game,

high morals, leadership ability, disciplinarian and a desire to win.

Does not sound like they are looking for a young coach.

Sounds like when they wrote the job description they had

Coach Billy Ray Duncan in mind.

If they can not find the right man for the job

look for coach Decker to take the job back for a year or 2.

He is not going to allow this program that he built to fall apart.

Does anybody remember where this program was after the Morrisson era.

1 Bill Duncan

2 Rick Sinard

3 Jeremy Parrott

4 Tony Scott (yes I do rememeber when he helped Stomper)

Everyone talks about all these young coaches in the area and I believe the best one around is the young guy from Gatlinburg Pittman. Don't know his name but saw him coach against my grandson's team and he does a great job! Great motivator and looks like he is a winner.GP has been pretty good last three years. Any comments on that?

He took a Senior laden team at GP last year and led them to a 4th place finish in the regular season. They had more talent from players 1-7 than anyone inthe district. They did finish 2nd in the tournament, but laid an egg in the regionals at home. Not taking anything away from him, but you may be giving him to much credit. He hasn't really won that much so far. Next year will be a real test for him.

I don't know if he would leave but from what I have seen the past two seasons at GP he can turn a program around. "Boxn1"Didn't they finish tied for 1st in the District last year and lost their best player to an injury at the start of the district tournament if not would have played in a district championship? They also made it to the championship this year, they beat us in the semi-finals with average talent team. Boxn1 they had those two bigs inside but guards were average at best!! Not better than Union,Cumberland Gap, or Claiborne and definitely not better than us. No one was better than McBee, his post player was a wash with Humph and Framer was better than any wing they had.

Great coach that would be able to keep them on track with what they have been doing and get them to the next level would be Coach Eggleston from Cumberland County High School. Has been to the state tournament level in Florida and has been part of some great college staffs as well.

Why did he leave Cumberland County? I saw on the TSSAA website that they are looking for a new coach. For that matter why is leaving Florida if he has a state tournament level team? I know some coaches in Florida what was the school he coached at? Not trying to be negative just inquisitive.

He left Florida because he was teaching at an inner city school in Orlando that was not safe for his children so he was trying to take a job where the school system is better for his children. If you have been to the part of orlando that he was at you would completely understand. As far as leaving Cumberland County High School that goes a whole lot deeper - let's just say politics are king in the county. There is a ton of angry posts on this on crossville forum concerning the politics involved in this issue and an article on the front page of the paper of the crossville chronicle about it. His entire team loves him and is still fighting to try and get him to be able to stay. In the end if you read the newspaper article and the forum postings you will see that there is something special to Coach Eggleston for a community to rally behind someone like they have here.

After getting to know Coach Eggleston you know three important things

1. He is going to work his butt off for your children and will get the most out of whatever talent a team has to offer.

2. He is going to build your program the right way and will have a very well disciplined team.

3. You would be lucky to have your child play for him.

this guy is a solid coach and would be an asset to any school system. a bit of a yankee but still a good one. i would not think he would want to stay in a place where the upper echolon did not want him. too good a coach for that.
