Tyler was hit in the right eye by a line drive. The ball was hit so hard it came off him and went towards first. The first baseman was able to get the ball and make the out at first base. Tyler was taken to a local hospital and transported to UT. He had a small hematoma??? on his brain and possible fractures. Once at UT he has been seen by many doctors. He does have 3 fractured bones and they will do surgery one one of them soon. They are going to wait until some of the swelling goes down. They did a follow-up CT scan this morning and the hematoma is going down. There is still concern regarding his vision. He was released from the hospital tonight. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Everyone is thankful for all of the prayers. We would also like to say that Wartburg has some really great fans, players and coaches. They won to go on in the tournament. Instead of going off and celebrating their win, many of them came to the hospital. There were probably 5 or 6 players, many parents and even coaches at the hospital. It was amazing to see every Harriman player and half of the Wartburg players at the hospital for a couple of hours just waiting to see if he was okay. We are still getting calls from Wartburg parents to check and see how he is doing. It is appreciated and we wish them the best in their games this week.

How blessed we are when such a demonstration of caring and concern is shown to our youth.

May the Lord watch over him through his recovery and always.

Update on Tyler:

As of today Tyler is doing pretty well. The swelling is down and he is functioning a lot better. He has another appt with the eye doctor Monday afternoon and we hope the prognosis gets better. Right now he has significant vision loss in his right eye and the Doctor actually told him he may never play again. This was the first time that the reality of that hit him and as you all can imagine that has been tough, especially for a sophomore to think he may lose his final 2 years of HS. But the doctor said "may not" and we know the Lord is in control. I do want to say thank you to all of those who have called, emailed, text, posted their thoughts on the internet, and most importantly those who continue to lift him in prayer. We know that with the Lord nothing is impossible.

Thanks to all for the prayers and please continue to lift him up as it will be a long road.....

any updates?

Yesterday afternoon the Doctor said he was "very Impressed" with Tyler's progress over the first week. He still has no sight in the bottom half of the vision field in his right eye, however the vision in the upper half improved to 20/80. This is a good start and we continue to pray for healing and a full recovery. The doctor said it is a matter of wait and see. Thanks again for all the prayers and please continue as he fights this battle. He is determined to play again and we have faith that he will do just that.
