Ricky should call John Curtis in Louisiana. At last glance, John Curtis is looking for an opponent the same weekend, as apparently a potential game with Bolles (FL) - a team Ricky's former MBA teams played twice a decade ago - has fallen through for John Curtis.

Timing aside, I think this would be a great opportunity for EHS. Ricky was never shy of difficult schedules at MBA, and John Curtis is a national power. While JCCS may be a "league up", it would be the kind of matchup that gives a young school like Ensworth some national publicity, as well provide a pretty good barometer as to where the program is.

Err, RollRedRoll, with this schedule:

1. Murfreesboro Oakland (H) - Just the defending DI-5A champs; you always want to start out slow, you know;

2. MBA (A) - Anyone remember last year's game, with Orleans Opoku-Darkwa's back-to-back 99.5 and 80-yeard TD juants in the first quarter, and Tavarres Jefferson's two TDs on mind-boggling "catch me if you can" jaunts late in the game? (I will go out on a limb here: The Big Red will be ready to play.);

3. McCallie (A) - Ditto, after Jacob Carter blocked the potential game-winning FG on the last play of the game and then kicked the game-winning PAT in OT;

4. Smyrna (A) - Another DI-5A (now 6A) "patsy"...NOT!;

5. Brentwwod Academy (H) - Still playing varsity football there, too;

6. John Paul II (A);

7. Father Ryan (H) - Ask the Irish if they remember Tavarres' antics in the last two minutes of last year's game after Ryan stormed back to take the lead late. Yet another motivated rival;

8. Baylor (H), and

9. BGA (H); I don't think Ricky is going to have any trouble getting a read on how his group is stacking up against the Big Boys this year.

Does any DII team play a tougher schedule this year?

Later, and may everyone have a safe and succesful season!

I guess playing 5 non-league games last year just to get wins did not payoff at the end of the year for Ricky. Maybe he learned that the better teams you play in the season makes your team better in the playoffs.

2008 Non-league games records

1. CPA 9-4

2. St. Benedict 2-8

3. Stone Memorial 2-9

4. Webb 4-6

5. Warren Co. 4-7

TOTAL record 21-34

I didn't read RRR's post as a critcism of Ensworth's schedule, or of Bowers. It seems a reasonable thought: Ensworth has developed into a top flight program in short order, and an out of state game like that would raise the program's profile considerably.

Thank you. I am glad someone understands my post was the farthest thing from a criticism (it was anything but; in fact, it was a compliment - and a thought of "opportunity" giving matching open dates).

I don't know what it is about message boards this season (coacht and elsewhere); some people are misconstruing posts left and right everywhere I go.

Sometimes you can tell a lot by the number of posts....

I was afraid my effort at a little humor might be misconstrued, BigRedRoll. I certainly wasn't offended by your original post. My point was that Ricky had made a big change in the degree of difficulty this year by "trading" some of the teams they played last year that were mentioned in Shakinthefat's message for some powerhouses that might cause some people to question his sanity. I know that he's worried about it.

By the way, its a shame the Tuscola,NC team had to cancel its appearance at EHS. Their QB, Tyler Brosius, a UVA signee listed as 6'3", 240, is pretty special. He has several YouTube clips that display both a strong arm and great touch. It might be best for Ensworth to not have to play those guys the week after their game at MBA, which should be a dandy!

Also to Shakinthefat's point about the end of the EHS in the DivII-AA semifainals last year, there was no disgrace in losing to that BA team. While they had some troubles early in the year, by that point they were playing very well, as they always do come playoff time.

Let's play football!!!
