Making the post-season may be easier than some people think?

Just out of curiosity I went to http://www.tssaa.org/schdir/regionalstandings.cfm and looked at 2A to see how that might shake it and a current 3-4 team could get in as the 24th team.

Then I did some simple math...

24 > 41/2

24 > 41/2

32 > 53/2

32 > 53/2

32 > 59/2

32 > 55/2

What do those represent?

The fact that more than half of each team in Division 1 makes the post season. So that means teams with losing records will make the post season.

They could put in a pretty cool twist. Say a team with a losing record makes the playoffs but there is another team with a winning record that is being left out. Put the 'left out' team with the best winning record in that spot, regardless of 'pod' or location. I believe that the #4 team out of the Rutherford county district could be very competitive in some of the region playoffs. Something along those lines...just a thought.

How about make a minimum win total, like NCAA and bowl games? If 29 teams finish with 6 wins or more, then some folks are getting a bye in the first round.....

Its nothing but a money racket. TSSAA doesnt care about putting a good product on the field early in the playoffs. All they are interested in is their cut$$$ Same goes for basketball. Why are we putting 4 teams in the regional? There is no reason for more than half the teams in a classification making the playoffs other than it's a money maker plain and simple. Other sports that are not so called "revenue" sports only have two teams represent their district in the playoffs.

Everyone doesn't realize that any team that goes 7-3 or 8-2 and doesn't finish in the top 2 of the district will more than likely make the playoffs. There is a misconception that they will be sitting at home, there is a small chance, but it won't happen. Where the the gray area comes in is for teams that are 5-5 and teams that are 1-9 are making it. If you have a winning record more than likely you get in.
