DII Championship - What Idiot put this game in Cookeville?

With the majority of teams in Memphis and Nashville should this game not be in maybe Jackson TN, instead of making everyone drive to Cookeville on a Thursday? Who are the morons that make up this stuff? Not a very smart person that is for sure.

Thank you I will and hopefully anyone who agrees with this will also. I don't have a dog in this hunt but I sure would like to watch a potential MUS-vs-Ensworth match up without having to drive all the way to Cookeville to do it. This makes no sense whatsoever!

I'd like to watch MUS-Ensworth too, but am not willing to drive anywhere to watch it. I imagine that the game won't be on TV yet again?

Flogging dead horse...we've been complaining abouty both the venue and the day since it was first announced. Most of the complaints here have centered on Thursday as a championship date. Still, as you say, Cookeville is really convenient to no one. It's a nice place and I'm sure they'll do a great job with it, but it's very remote to the population centers. At least Nashville and Murfreesboro are both in the center of the state, and easily accessed by all the major highways.

 

Since this is on a school night, it's a nightmare any way you slice it.

I think you're overstating things a bit.

First things first. No high school football team (PUBLIC OR PRIVATE) should be allowed into the playoffs without a winning record and 5-5 is not a winning record. The D2 A and D2 AA football games do not draw very well (let's be honest & say that none of the D1 or D2 games draw like they once did) and if the TSSAA were smart they would move them to a high school that could seat around 3-5 thousand and play the game on Saturday so that fans could attend. Should they play the championship game at the home field of the highest seeded team? The best weekend to have a high school state championship game would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Families travel for the holidays and now they could watch "Little Johnny & Little Katie" play and cheer their teams in the state championship game.

Ridiculous. Why? What does your overall record have to do with your record vs. teams in your class? I'll answer that for you. Nothing. The only thing that should count is record vs. teams you're competing with for a championship. God forbid MUS had played 7 games against nationally ranked teams and lost all 7 under your thought process. They'd still far and away be the best team in Tennessee and still be undefeated in region play.

 

People make rash absolute comments about stuff like this so often it's just ridiculous. If you want to say they shouldn't get in w/ a league or district record above .500?...then you might...might...have a point.

The real problem is the small number of teams on each side and not playing teams from each side during the regular season. This new schedule setup is ridiculous. They should have never split up the private and public schools in the first place, but that is another story for another time.

Your points are well made. The train went off the tracks prior to the split. Tennessee did not (and does not) have enough schools to justify the from three classifications to five (at that time, then seven, now eight). Three divisions of 16 districts, with only the district champ advancing made for an interesting regular season and a generally competitive play-off.

 

I understand the profit motive in professional sports. Thus the NBA's incredibly long season that eliminates almost nobody makes a certain amount of sense (their motto: "The only unpleasant thing that lasts longer is pregnancy"). To reduce high school sports to a profit motive for an outside organization seems completely out of place.
