Oakland @ Cookeville

I fall more in with 2p's reasoning as to how this game will go. Cookeville is down from their standards in past years, but Oakland and Cookeville are similar in many ways. I do think this game will be pretty close for awhile until Oakland uses its depth to finish this one off. Got a feeling a big game is coming Khalil Newman's way, he's getting the ball earlier and earlier into the flow of the game.

Cookeville will be ready to play. I think it'll be a low scoring game and whoever makes the fewest mistakes wins. Cookeville will be undersized but whats new? Noone thinks outside of cookeville that they can win and hopefully they'll come out looking to prove they can compete with the top teams in the state. Should be a fun game cant wait

Are there any Cookie-Ville fans here? Heard nothing about your team.

Last year was vintage Cookeville. Tough and scrappy on defense, skilled and balanced on offense. Also has one of the better coaches in the state in Jerry Joslin. Will be just as tough of a matchup as last go around. Hopefully this will be the first of 2 trips to Cookeville.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
