I have heard from several people in Moore County that Smith is, without a doubt, the administrations choice and that he has accepted. I have also heard that not many in MC are happy about the choice. If the school board has to approve new hires, they may stop it after hearing from the voters.

Coach Smith has grown as a coach. He knows he made some mistakes and he has learned from those. He has also learned from every school he has been in. I think he is a better coach now than he has ever been and will be a good fit for MC. As for applying for many jobs, what else could he do when needing a job? I think MC is fortunate to get him,he is not the same coach as many remember,he is just a lot better. How do I know this? I coached with him on two different occasions and he is someone I would always want to be coaching with.

You're right, winning does make everything better. It may be hard to win if he does'nt have player/community support. After the last two coaches, I thought MC might look for a coach with staying power. If I counted right, I think this will be Smith's 8th job in the last 20 years. That about 2 1/2 years at each school. It makes you wonder why he feels the need to move on so often. With a record like that, I'm not sure he will stay long enough to coach his first game at Lynchburg.

The players will be the ones to suffer over all this. I have heard that the players and current coaches at the High School don't like Smith. Some talk of player boycot. Without players it could be tough this season. I think the Principal made a huge error in judement.

lol, how do the players even know him? I promise you who their new coach is going to be is very low on these kids priority list. It comes somewhere after girls, girls and oh yeah, girls.

Moore County has been down for almost ten years now and you're going to turn down a guy that has a State Championship on his resume? Tough crowd.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
