The ballot is now in my hands. Positive feedback is needed as to who you think the nominees should be. Negative comments will not help:

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the state basketball championships in March.

This group is to include three finalists for Miss Basketball and three for Mr. Basketball in each classification. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. and Miss Basketball trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

The awards will be presented for each classification prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively. The presentation of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Division II will be given on Saturday, March 6 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The presentation of the Miss Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 13 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The presentation of the Mr. Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 20 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Any player at any of our member schools is eligible to receive votes, and I would encourage you to take a moment and give careful consideration to any player with whom you are familiar and who you think deserving of the Mr. or Miss Basketball Award.

These votes are a nominating process only. A selection committee that will include representatives from each area of the state will meet to vote on the finalists and winner of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Award for each classification. You may submit the names of up to three players in each classification for the awards. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. And, please, consider the statewide aspect of this voting process.

In order for your ballot to be counted in the selection process, it must be received in our office via mail or fax (615-889-0544) no later than noon on FEBRUARY 8. Please respond today.

Top 3 Should Be (in this order):

Beth Hawn, Forrest

Laken Leonard, Jackson County

Molly Heady, Clarkrange

5 Others to Consider:

Sara Nelms, Cornersville

T.T. Flowers, Lake County

Terrah Garner, Pickett County

Layce Colter, Red Boiling Springs

Molly Wallsmith, Bradford

These choices are right on, all of these ladies make their teams so much better....I will speak of the one I know the best......Beth Hawn has all of the qualities of a Ms Basketball candidate. She is leading all scorers in Tenn., rebounds with the best, makes everyone around her better too, refuses to let her team down and night after night she wills the win, great senior leadership, wonderful student and person...looks like the COMPLETE package of a Ms Basketball WINNER! Congratulations to those young ladies that are selected, you are all special players!!!

Dito Aunt Kim. Beth has developed into the complete player. She is a great leader on and off the court. You can't go wrong with Beth as Ms Basketball.

My vote would be for Molly Heady from Clarkrange. She is the most humble hard working young lady I have ever been around. She has tremendous character and integrity. This young lady never takes a play off and her numbers prove that. She recently went over 2000 points for her career, and over 1000 rebounds. She has led her teams in scoring and rebounding all four years of her career. I would encourage those that have not seen her play to watch her before you vote. Her hustle and hard work is contagious to everyone she plays with and everyone that pays to watch her. Molly has accomplished all of this and has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She is truly an amazing young lady. Lots of other girls are worthy as well but I just think Molly is the total package and what the Miss Basketball award should be all about.

I haven't seen all the players listed above play, but that list is consistent with the players getting attention on the fourms. Hawn may be the best offensive player I seen this year, Leonard is also a great offensive player. I would vote for Molly Heady also, she can play all 5 positions well enough to start on about any team. She will not lead the state in points, rebounds, assists, or any category...but she will probably be in the top 15 or so in every major category! She is also a very good defender on any size opponent. I think her advantage in this list is the most complete all around player? All girls on the list are very deserving of the award!
