The ballot is now in my hands. Positive feedback is needed as to who you think the nominees should be. Negative comments will not help:

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the state basketball championships in March.

This group is to include three finalists for Miss Basketball and three for Mr. Basketball in each classification. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. and Miss Basketball trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

The awards will be presented for each classification prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively. The presentation of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Division II will be given on Saturday, March 6 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The presentation of the Miss Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 13 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The presentation of the Mr. Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 20 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Any player at any of our member schools is eligible to receive votes, and I would encourage you to take a moment and give careful consideration to any player with whom you are familiar and who you think deserving of the Mr. or Miss Basketball Award.

These votes are a nominating process only. A selection committee that will include representatives from each area of the state will meet to vote on the finalists and winner of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Award for each classification. You may submit the names of up to three players in each classification for the awards. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. And, please, consider the statewide aspect of this voting process.

In order for your ballot to be counted in the selection process, it must be received in our office via mail or fax (615-889-0544) no later than noon on FEBRUARY 8. Please respond today.

I agree with Butler and Fussell.

Butler has had an AWESOME 4 years at Gibson Co. She should be at 2000 points within her next few games. By the time the post season is over with, Butler should wind up in 2nd or 3rd in all time points at Gibson Co. High School behind Tiffany Adkins (currently 1st) and Kaitlin Dudley (currently 2nd). She has signed for a full ride at UT-Martin. Butler led her team to a state championship as a Junior and looks to be doing the same in her Senior year. Butler has a very hard work ethic and that's shown since her days at Medina until now. It's going to be tough for all of us GC fans next year when we don't see a Heather Butler out there controlling the offense and taking over games when needed to do so. There's no doubt in my mind that she's one of the top 3 AA basketball players.

Chassidy Fussell was nominated as Ms. Basketball last year and in my opinion will wind up winning it this year. She has signed a scholarship with the University of Texas. I believe Fussell is well beyond 2000 points thus far in her career and could go down as the best girls basketball player to ever come out of Obion Co. High School. She's the best ball handler I've ever seen a girl have in high school. Her shooting is suspect, however her ball handling and athleticism make up for her getting to the basket. Congrats to Chassidy on an awesome 4 years thus far at Central.

yes fussel and butler should win it it depend how voters look at what miss basketball mean to them if they look at points fussel will win it but if they look at the all around basketball player butler should win not saying anything bad about fussel but if butler shot as many time as fussel do she will have not telling how many points but they play on two diffrent style of team play but they are two great players my vote will go to buttler and not because i am a gc fan just because she is a great team leader and u never can tell when she is upset or mad on the court great kid off the court a hard worker and could possible win back to back state titles thats saying something itself and have prob around 2000 points in her 4 years i would rather say thats my miss basketball rather than just saying fussel just having lets just say 4 thousand points and a few triple doubles which thats great like i said not saying anything bad about her she is a great player its just how you look at it but good luck 2 both girls two of the best i have ever seen play high school ball bes of luck girls

i laugh at how you guys slobber over the measley 2000 point scorers who just passed that mark and present to you with someone who passed that mark like in January ................. OF 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

AMBER RECHIS - Westview - easily the best shooter in Tennessee at any classification (and probably college LOL), and 3000 points will be here soon barring an early playoff exit

second place:

Chassidy Fussell - OC (can do everything if she wants - lit my team up for 46 and 35 and yet seems to be passing more this year and that is bad news for Westview and GC because it makes her harder to guard - hard to argue with a Texas signee but Rechis will outscore her by about 600-700 points so i went with the better scorer)

third place:

Aubrey Reedy - GC (maybe best all around player - although TSSAA probably doesn't want to reward people who transfer for 100% basketball reasons - and she already got what she wanted out of that - the gold ball)

honorable mention:

Heather Butler - GC (hard for me to put a player in top three who is not the best player on her own team - even though she is a great player)
