This year should be fun to watch..The clear cut favorite is Maplewood, however the first round games will be interesting to watch..I see an upset in the CPA(4) vs Whites Creek(5) game. The cobras are on a hot streak they are playing there best basketball right now..watch out for number 32 kevonte black for the cobras he is a real spark off the bench, but it is CPA and coach maddux will have his team ready. The two teams split there season series. Another game to watch is the David Libscomb vs Hume fogg game. this is a trap game for DL if there not careful..the rest

The only higher seed to advance is CPA. Tough that DL and EL are gone. All four games tonight extremely tight.

Maplewood is the #1 seed and will play Pearl Cohn today at Dalewood in the 1st/8th place game. Friday's games SHOULD be Maplewood vs. CPA and Hume Fogg vs. MLK. Both games at East Lit.

Good assesment and prediction of the games last night. Whites Creek took CPA to OT, Hume Fogg upset Lipscomb and East Lit was upset by MLK. The number 2 & 3 seeds go down. All games decided by 3 points or less. Normally I would say that Maplewood would be a heavy favorite tonight against Pearl-Cohn, but given the current upset fever in this district, no team is safe.

Consolation games are Monday. Girls at 6:00. Boys at 7:30

District Championship is Tuesday. Girls at 6:00 Boys at 7:30.

Maplewood will cruise into the Region Tournament as a #1 seed. CPA is 15 points worse than the Panthers on a great night. Maplewood won't be tested in the championship game by either Hume-Fogg or MLK.

Schedule for Monday is consolation games featuring Hume Fogg vs. CPA following the Hume Fogg/Lipscomb girls game.

Tuesday will be Maplewood vs. MLK for the championship following the East Lit/CPA girls championship game. All games played at East Lit.

For those who didn’t see Maplewood/CPA game, CPA came into game a key player short as Zelenik was not dressed out. From the beginning CPA attempted to control the tempo by starting with zone on defense and tried to spread the floor on offense looking for backdoors and curl cuts to basket. Maplewood hit its first two three point attempts to take a 6-0 lead and never lost the lead the entire game. Maplewood did not begin in the press, but turned to the press to attempt to create some tempo for themselves which worked as they built a 23-11 lead. CPA scored the last two baskets to make it 23-15 at half.

 

CPA had the ball to start the 2nd half but turned it over, Maplewood came down and decided to hold the ball until CPA came out of its zone defense. CPA stayed in zone the entire quarter, Maplewood made the attempt to get the last shot but, had a 3 second call in the lane. CPA’s desperation shot to end the quarter did not go so it was a 0-0 quarter. CPA did come out of the zone during the 4th so play actually resumed. Maplewood standing around the entire 3rd affected them in getting back into a flow. CPA cut the lead to 4 with the ball, but could get no closer. Too many turnovers over the course of the game as Maplewood’s pressure bothered them. Maplewood did a nice job down the stretch hitting free throws. Final was 34-24.

i do not think the maplewood will sleep walk through this championship game..this is Doc shelton we are talking about. He coaches for these moments remeber in the 2006 championship game Pearl cohn was clearly the betta team but DOC held the ball the entire second quarter..and hit all of their free throws in the fourth. The next year they played CPA and Mlk also won that game..Im not saying MLK will upset this game but it will be a great coaching game to watch.

 

For Maplewood this has been along time coming..For the past four years they have had the most talent in Metro..Talent goes out talent comes in However they have been a disappointment in the past years, but this year team looks good i dont know how far they can go but this will be a team to keep an eye on
