It's hard to put a positive spin on this. I can see where Coach Surlas was coming from, Dorian told the school he had an offer, that has to fall on him and his parents. That is amazing that this could happen, not just at Catholic, but anywhere (the story about the kid from Nevada was even more amazing). You would have to think there would be contact between the college recruiter and the high school coaches especially about scholarship offers. With all of the technology at hand, someone needs to do a better job of communicating what's going on.

This whole situation just shows the pressure of being a high profile high school athlete. But like they say on ESPN, "COME ON MAN", there are just some things you dont do and lying about a scholarship is one of those things It is really funny if you ask me. That would be like me saying the Anderson County Cows are good, we all know thats a lie

this is awful. he screwed up alot more athletes choices by this. some people chose not to go to carson newmen because they didnt want so much competition. now that his fake signing was revealed, many student athletes are left at a less talented college

While it was wrong for this student-athlete to lie, if some players chose not to go somewhere because of competition, well then they probably aren't going to make it anyway.

This is just sad. It is a shame that our society has blown up college recruiting to such a level that kids feel the pressure to do this. It is ok to be a good high school player and not get a college scholarship. Too often, parents think little Johnny is the best on his high school team, therefore he must be worthy of a scholarship. It could be that no one on the team is college material. The colleges don't hand out schollys like candy!!
