Where is everybody getting this? I never said West was best forthe MILLIONTH time. You're right about one thing West was stacked last year. In this region though, like you said, they're going to have to be extremely good. The coaching isn't "poor" either. I'll admit I don't like the veer offense; however, Cummings knows the veer very well and knows how to run it. I just wish he would throw the ball more. Coach D was a GREAT defensive coach, I was sad to see him go. The new defensive coach seems to know what he's doing though.

BTW are you sure you went to West? Your statement about not enough talent is laughable. That's NEVER a problem at West.

West really got the shaft when they were placed in the district their in. West could go to any other district and beat just about any team in it. I just believe they are in one of the toughest districts in the state. I wish West the best of luck and just hang in there guys, cause something good will happen!

  • 2 weeks later...

I admitted that Grace beat them, but they did beat Central. However, scrimmage wins are for losers. Think about that for a while. West would destroy Grace in the season, they're 1freakina. Yea put your team in West's region and see what they're record is. West was very competitive last year. Haters, Haters, Haters :bored:

Also that "7-5" record you have up there........great team. They lost to Maryville in the second round 17-9. That team would've won state if Maryville didn't get their home cookin. I know shoulda, coulda, woulda I'll spare someone a post.

Just looking around and found this .... It's given me a good laugh ... thanks a lot !

Just a quick fact for you and every one on this thread West has made the quarter finals 1 time in my lifetime in 1993 at 11-3...get real RR.

Boy that was a good year at that... Eric Westmoreland just had a field day on West that day.. But I remember rolling through Jasper, TN every store closed down for the game.. Every store had signs up on their windows telling us to GO back to Ktown. It seemed like every business closed down and the whole Jasper city was a the game.. Boy oh boy that was one heckuva year.. R.I.P. Coach Wilson and R.I.P. Coach Cinnamon

But I have to agree with THECATCALL09, West isn't known for producing championship caliber teams in football. '93 was the only year West came close to making it to state. IF they would've beat Marion County that night West would've been in the State Championship game for the first time in school history. That's the last time West has been that close. RR, I'm a West Alumni and saying WEST is the "BEST" in football is a mighty bold statement.. Its going to take a lot to back those words up because like THECATCALL said, combine the records from the last 10 years and I'd think Central would have the better record...

RR, I wish you the best of luck and I hope and pray West can do something on the field but I just don't see it. Oh yeah, you brought up West hanging with Maryville hahah Well I know when I was at West, we didn't beat Maryvillle one time. But yea every West person hates Maryville.

I'm a huge west supporter and even i know west isn't the best team but they aren't the worst neither. West is a well respected team that in the playoffs no team could look forward to playing. Anybody that knows high school football schould know that. To correct a prior mistake west in fact was 4-6 last year, but poor calls by referees decided the difference in the fulton and farrigut game. And if west played catholic on a better field last year west wins that game 24-21. West is a competitive team each season, they just also happen to be playing in the toughest region in the state of tennessee. If west was in the same region as central they'd most likely win the region, that can even be argued. I understand that history makes a program, but it shouldnt be brought up in discussions of the now, and in the now west is a better program both athletically and academically than central, thats just the simple facts of the matter and for anyone to say otherwise is absolutly garish, and a bold face lie as well. :thumb:

I never said that.........read some of my older posts maybe? I said West is one of the best teams in Knoxville not "the" best. And of course West didn't beat Maryville when you were in school, no one does. However, West has scared the bejesus out of Maryville the past few years.

Ok Ill say it if West played Central in a 4 qtr game this year they would lose, period. You all need to get real. Like I have said before Central is the best team in the past and now...if we had played anymore that game in the spring the West QB would not have finished the game.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
