How about this boys.Very few lineman would have wanted to block any one of the three candidates that we put out there.I feel pretty confident the other two and my choice would make a nice three man front for any high school when they were all in their prime.Might have to throw out the age limit to make that happen, but you know what I'm saying

Here it is in a nut shell. All the Colonial Heights and Rock Springs people are haters of DB. They wanted Colonial Heights to have no part of Kingsport. Jealous of our history and our sports teams. Also, some other reasons that i won't mention and get a bad thing started. These are the most arrogant people in the world.

I assure you that not all colonial heights people are arrogant and/or haters. Broadly generalizing a community is unfair and disrespectful. We all have people that take it to the extreme. I am proud to have worn rebel blue but respect the maroon and gray. I have several good friends that played for the tribe and come playoff time I'll be pulling for your Indians. I agree that db will probably have too much for us, but upsets do happen. I'll see u under the lights of j Fred, go big blue!

Jealous? Arrogant?

Arrogant defined-The city just can't seem to understand how poor Colonial Heights would want no part of being in the city. Those ingrates! Simpletons! We, the city, will just have to show them what's best for them, whether they like it or not. Classic arrogance.

And the parents and students are so jealous of the superior city schools, when they get a chance they flock to them? The vast majority of those already annexed have chosen to stay in the county schools. Given the choice DB wouldn't get 5% of the South students. Why do you think that is?

I haven't seen many DB haters here. But there will be plenty of city haters when they get done. That is until we take over the Boards, Committees, etc.

The median income for a family was $53,651 from Colonial Heights. The median income for a family was $40,183 from Kingsport. However the city schools are rated much higher and offer much more. Teachers are paid a nice chunk more as well in the city. The poor county school way of thinking is false as DB has many more poor students and still out does South. As far as transfers go, it is about even, but if I grew up in a county system with all my buds, I would not leave either.

A gift to the Sullivan South Rebels

The year was 1993, both Dobyns-Bennett & Sullivan South entered the Sept. 17 game with 2-0 records. The Indians and Rebels were ranked 1 & 2 in the Times News Notheast TN Poll. Graham Clark was a first year Head Coach for DB and South was led by Head Coach Mark Smith. DB led the series 8-4 going into the game, played at Death Valley. Famous Amos Major Hoople picked the Rebels to win 19-14.

Sullivan South dominated that game, winning 33-7 and in doing so pinned the first ever Coaching loss on Graham Clark... in a game that Clark said afterwords was "a nightmare of the worst kind". South was led by their awesome defense and a potent ground game. Halfback Kevin Smith led the Rebels rushing attack with 144 yds on 20 carries, followed closely by all everthing Jeremy Osborne who rushed for 137 yds on 20 carries. Rebel QB Hunter Jordan scored on two 1 yd runs and passed for another TD. The Rebels held the Indians to 50 yds rushing for the game... Total yards were 363 - 112 in favor of South.

The Rebels finished the Regular Season as Region 1 4-A Champs (10-0), earning a 1st Round Bye in the Playoffs and ranked #4 in the State. South defeated Knox Powell in Round 2, 10-7 and defeated Cocke Co. 6-0 in Round 3... setting up a Semifinal Game with #1 Ranked Cleveland. South could not match the speed of the Blue Raiders and lost 21-0... ending the season Ranked #3 in the State with 12-1 record in what was, at the time, The Greatest Season in School History (and maybe still is)

One other thing happened in 1993.... the Class of 2011 was born.

Let's hope that the class of 2011 is not a prophecy type thing Art and we continue to win for a few more generations.I know what this game means to the players and coaches for both teams. Not a lot of talk right now by the fans, but I'd bet there would be three different threads started and then shut down by the administrators if South returned the gift of 2009.

"still out does South" at what? You list a bunch of stats but don't really finish your point. I'll reserve comment until your clarification.

If South's line blocks really well and doesnt miss any assignments then I can see Haden maybe keeping it close for a few quarters. But all in all, I think we just have too many athletes for South to handle and we handily beat them.. maybe a blowout.

I agree South will have to play at their best and DB play an off night for South to win. I endured watching both teams the last two games against Boone and DB overall has a bigger and faster team. If DB stops Haden it could be a long night for South.

AFTER 5 GAMES:

Since we have a week to reflect and look with ambition toward the future regarding the potential of this team can do, here's my take away from last night's games, and what the Tribe can expect heading into November 5th - First Round of the playoffs. DB is IMO, the Alcoa of Upper ETN because of talent/demographics, and DB has the charachter this year to "not back down" or get intimidated by anyone in the state!

I believe Sevier County was a perfect game for the Tribe this year and I hope TN High and SH provide enough challenging looks to allow DB's players in all positions the ability to raise their game another notch mentally so that when we get to the playoffs, there will be no "deer in the headlights" feelings if indeed we will be seeing the speed and athleticism of some of the Middle TN teams.

In personally knowing a lot of the personelle on DB's team, I feel we not only have the talent to go far this year, but more importantly we have the mindset to "go get it". Historically teams(players not coaches) from ETN sometimes get intimidated when reaching the Middle TN teams and a lot of that has to do with our teams not being used to playing against teams with the athletic/demographic make-up of teams in Middle and/or West TN. Although our last trip to M'boro we had every chance to win. McMinn was what it was. No excuse- but leading RB left with mild fracture in ankle/foot. But if healthy, DB is as good as any team from Middle TN East, and more than likely the state.

Since I believe we have the personelle to get past Maryville this yr if that is our Knox area match up, I'll share my thoughts on the game I went to last night. Which is the team I think we will play if not in the title game, at least the game before potentially.

Oakland at Riverdale: 3 OT Win. (NOTE: Riverdale missed close FG that could have won it easily.)

But since Oakland is ranked so high, and getting a lot of the Pub in Middle TN, at this point they are the team with the bullseye on their back according to the so called "Experts" who think DB is overrated and playing in a inferior league. So, there's a perception that DB plays one or two tough games and then cruises until playoff time. I heard one guy in Nashville compare DB to Boise State for those of you that follow College.

Oakland: Great Fast & Athletic D! You can't easily stretch this team around the ends much, but Riverdale showed that if you can stick with a smash mouth style of play and challenge thier front 5, you have a great chance of moving the ball and eventually opening up the passing game in key situations. Riverdale basically blitzed every play, but Oakland was able to sustain and put together enough solid runs. Riverdale also helped Oakland with their "two fake" play action pass plays that took waay to long to develope against a team with Oakland's speed. Thus sacks and tackles for loss.

That brings me to my main point. DB has the same type of athletes (lineman included) on offense and in the secondary as Oakland as well as speed. If this is our matchup, we absolutely have the ability to beat this team. With DS at wideout who can run with or get open against Oaklands 2ndary, I like our ability to pass when needed. Althought Oakland is big and athletic up front on D, I saw with my own eyes, that a Healthy CS will eventually wear them down. Especially if they have to scout/prepare for our QB, Swafford, and Cannon. (That means everyone could contribute substantially) Oakland will not play DB like teams from upper ETN with all eyes on stopping 32 and let others beat them. They(Oak) have enough talent on D, to man up with DB. But I think that will be there downfall, because they will have never faced a RB as strong as CS.(Outside of Bryson at Smyrna)That is not meant to take away from all of the other talent at DB, because we have a lot of outstanding players on the lines, and at skill positions, but from what I have seen with this years DB team's style of play......32 is the workhorse that opens up our other options/weapons.

There is a lot that I could say about DB's outlook against teams west of Knox that I have watched, but I hate reading long posts myself so I will spare you guys.

Lastly, great win last night against Boone, and we still need to take it one game at a time, not overlooking South TN High or SH. But, from a fans perspective I like to look at the big picture potential. No need to quarrel with South, TN High, Boone, or anyone up there this yr because we Supposed to beat those teams. Remember the DB Pride and Tradition, and march confidently and demand your own BEST - the rest of these etn teams are showing their ultimate respect for DB by taking the time to throw darts like they do.

Roll Tribe!!

sorry for any sp errors, wrote this in a rush......

OMG… I’m gonna need waders for this one!! You are delusional at best. Not once did you mention M A R Y V I L L E which is by FAR your BIGGEST hurdle. You’re ghost ridding the cart while sitting on the horse at the top of the hill if you even consider the middle TN teams before you figure out how to get around the Great Wall of Blount County. You obviously haven’t figured it out yet… but you will. ;) I’m gonna put this one back… it’s a CROWS meat buffet!!! :D

ROLE (another one) TRIBE!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
