Union City girls basketball team is loaded and ready for this year. Union City Girls Basketball will be taken to a new level for sure, one they have not been to very many time. should be fun.....

UC has a good team, but they are in District 14A not 13A that this thread is about. They will not win District 13A.

You want to bet !!!!! They are going to shock everyone who comes out and plays them. This is not your tipical Union City girls team. They will control the district...just wait and see bud!!

uuuuuuh well maybe you need to check to see who is in which district before you make any bets. I agree that it would be quite a shock for a team to win a district that they are not in.

Please let Union City come to yall's district. We're tired of beating up on them..lol...But like Run and Jump said,I have no idea how Union city could win District 13A...At first I responded to UC Grad's post on here but deleted it because it was for District 13A and then copied his or her statement and pasted it to the District 14A thread .I guess Union City is really thinking the REEDY girl is going to make them State Champs.I have my doubts because they also lost the Huff girl.Anyway.Yall are more than welcome to come let UC Grad think what yall believe on District 14A thread.I'm sure Grad has District 14A in the bag also.If UC can win District 13A without being in District 13A,I preet sure District 14A won't be a problem for them.I saw in an earlier post that Run and Jump said Union city plays Dresden. That may be enough to bring Grad back down to earth with the rest of us.I find it kind of odd that Grad would respond to yall's post but didn't come to district 14A and respond to my comments.

If Dresden stays healthy and their seniors play up to their potential, as well as their freshmen of the year last year then yes, they should win this district. I saw Huntingdon this summer and they looked like they could be tough. It would not suprise me to see them and Dresden in the finals. Gleason, however, could also be there. They are always fundamental and generally don't beat themselves. The three above mentioned teams will be the ones to look for out of 13A. Don't really know anything about West Carroll or Big Sandy. Mckenzie is very young and inexperienced with no seniors or juniors and clarksburg and Carrolll Academy will not be very good at all.

OK 13A folks time to wake up! I was reading the 14A list and you would think Greenfield won the state title because they beat Dresden's girls. Last night was a very bad outing for the Lady Lions. I don't think it is Representative of what we have seen our will see at all. Never seem to play well at Greenfield. That is a hard place to win a game.Things are usually different with the same teams in other gyms. Hasn't been much said about Big Sandy, I watched them play at the Westview playday. They could be a surprise to everyone this year.

I hear that Huntingdon has a good team....have they played anyone, yet? Record?

Dresden is really, really missing the Glisson girl. From what I understand, she's trying to recover from a very bad knee injury. Plus, I couldnt believe that Dresden only had 4 girls on the bench. I heard that a bunch quit the team, because they didnt want to run and do conditioning drills. I think with the Glisson girl out, and the bench only having 4 players, that it'll be very difficult for Dresden to do much damage beyond the regular season...

Gleason didnt look realy good the other night. The center, a red headed girl named Briana Jones, is a very good, ball player...but, beyond her was slim pickin's....

Are there any other teams in this district that yall think will challenge these 3 teams?

Volfan007 Glisson is out for a while and there is one other girl who is hurt. The bench is sort of a lonesome place however they have gotten some good minutes out of the bench players so far. As far as who to watch, I think everyone is expecting to see Huntington be good because of their coach and some athleticism from last year. I guess the season will tell the tail.

Dresden will not be denied. Seniors are going to lead and those young players are going to keep growing and learning how to play in big games like at greenfield. These girls have worked their tails off and have no idea just how good they can be. I expect after christmas they will get their offense straightened out and Coach west will have a better idea how to use his role players. This is the year of the LION! :thumb:

Wow! Looks like Dresden put a whooping on Union City, UCGrad are you still crowning UC the new state champs. I really hate the ACL injury to Alex Glisson, that will hurt Dresden's chance at winning 13A. I hate to see Alex miss her senior year because she has worked so hard for this and now was her time to help lead Dresden to a great season. Dresden will miss Alex and cant replace what she gives to the team.

In my opinion Huntingdon may be the frontrunner now to win 13A.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
