Not against the top 10 for now as I'm sure they all won their games. But did notice that Union city received votes in taking a beating against Obion Central in a game that could have been a lot worse while Lake Co loses to a school by a 12-7 sore.I'm sur ehad Lake Co won that game 12-7 would have been in ther top 10.What I'm saying is the voters need to know more about voting. If a team is a preseason top 10 team like number 7 and lose to a bigger school by just 5 points in a game they should have won,may could see dropping 3 or 4 spots.Huntingdon is ranked # 4 and are a very good team. They are # 4 this week and deseveredly so.If they were to lose to someone liek McKenzie, maybe could see a drop of 1 or 2 spots at the most. Now if they lost to a smaller unranked opponent ,could see a drop of 5 or 6 spots.Like most say.the polls don't mean anything but I can promise that the kids have something to feel good about when they are acknwledged as one of the top teams.Seems like the voters dodn't have a clue.

If they didn't get anyone else right I think they nailed #1.

Do they ever mean anything in high school ball?

Sure they do. Bulletin Board Material! Coalfield and Lake County have the most to make of it this week. SP has a bounty on them. They also serve to potentially inflate the heads of teams.

Edit: As far as any direct meaning, no, not since the playoffs. They may effect seeding of wildcard teams.

Coalfield may deserve to be in the top 10.I'm surprised that Jo Byrns isn't at #2.I didn't think Wayne Co looked as good as Huntingdon but was a scrimmage basically so we'll see.Not sure if Lake Co is a top 10 team. All I'm saying is if Lake Co was considered to be a preseason #6 or 7 team as was Union City, what was more impressive.Lake Co losing to what is considered to be one of the stronger and a 2A team in Kentucky or losing to Obion central like Union City did in a game that could have been much worse. At least know what's going on for those that are voting.Lake Co is playing Fulton Co this week.If I'm voting ,wouldn't judge them or rank them higher on this game.Sometimes a team should be ranked or at least not drop more than a spot or two if it's a loss to a very good team, especially if it's a close game. That's more impressive than beating a Fulton Co or Fulton City 50-0.But to drop Lake Co after losing 12-7 to Murray Ky who went 12-1 last year.Again..learn a little about football and voting. If South Pittsburg were to play Alcoa and lose 17-7 would the voters drop them from the rankings completely.I know Murray may not be an Alcoa but lets say if they lost to Jo Byrns,PC or Wayne Co.At most maybe drop a coupel spots or 3 at the most. Not 15 spots and not even receive any votes. Not saying Lake co is a top 10.The teams listed are probably all deserving.Just can't see UC receiving votes in a blowout and Lake Co drop off the earth.Writers need to learn a little at least.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
