ACMAVERICK22
Oppressed, I agree with everything you said. As for the DC, he cant go out on the field and tackle for them. I have a son on the defence that starts. He was embarresed by our performance, but happy with his individual play. Finished the night with 3 solos and 5 assists and 1 knock down in the endzone on a 2pt conversion. He said he give it all he had. Friday night was like its been all year in our big games. These kids dont want it bad enough. There is no leadership from the upperclassmen. The lack of desire to go out and play the game of football is sickening to watch from this years group of Mavericks. Worst I have ever seen. I wish the younger kids that are playing would just take over now and start building the attitude of the future, because its all that we seem to have left
92Dragon
.....Oh, and did I mention, I'm NOT a fan of the new DC? NOT YET, anyways. I hope for the teams sake, he proves me wrong. Just because you played football, DOESN'T mean you can COACH FOOTBALL. Watching your team lose isn't very fun is it oppressed? Now u know the frustration I feel. Give em time and see if they don't get better. Good luck!
oppressed238
@ THEMANCONAN...I don't think this kids dad is either WHAT you think he is or WHO you think he is. I know this gentleman personally and I'm here to tell you he's worse on him than ANY of his coaches are....maybe part of the problem. I don't know. I do know that this team is gonna have to pull together if they expect to start winning. Receivers, qbs, and DEFENSE. @ ACM22...AGREED!!! THIS TEAM...THIS WHOLE TEAM DOES NOT WANT IT BAD ENOUGH. If that's the case, then I'm with you. Move over and let the younger players that WANT IT, HAVE IT! @92D...I think you're a good guy (even though I love aggravating the heck out of you) and I respect the loyalty you've shown your Dragons over the years. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE MAVERICK FOOTBALL. PERIOD.
oppressed238
Do the words "balanced offense" mean ANYTHING to coaches ANYMORE??? We have went from one extreme, running the ball during the Kerr years, to another, which is passing the ball under the Gillum years. A strong running game is what opens up the passing game and TOUGH defense is what WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
oppressed238
@ ACM22...if your son is ashamed of how this Maverick team has been playing, maybe it's time HE stepped up and took the lead. Just a suggestion. It will be hard for him being an underclassman. BUT....if there are others that share his vision for this team, then THEY need to step and support your son's efforts. Go Mavs! REBELRON
That new Def Coordinator helped put Maryville Football back on the map again. Hammontree is one heck of a coach.
oskie
It ain't coaching. That new Def Coordinator helped put Maryville Football back on the map again. Hammontree is one heck of a coach.
ACMAVERICK22
Oskie, I agree 90% of it is not coaching. There's a few things could be done dirrerent but most of it is Jimmies and joes. I just wish they would come together and start playing as a unit. Both sides of the ball. ACMAVERICK22
Opressed the whole sophomore class is trying but there is only so much they can do until its time or the coaches themselves chalk this up as a rebuilding year and start over. Maybe it wont get to that. I hope not. There are some very good senoirs on this team. Hopefully they'll get it going at the right time. We are 2-1 in the district and in control of our own play-off destiny. There's plenty of football left. I aint give up yet.
mavhead
I know I am new to the site and only posted 2x's (aside from a "lets play football" comment)regarding our defense. Not to say I told you so... but I was afraid that I saw this one coming. Powell is good, but I dont think their offense is that much better than CAK. Yep we lost pretty bad to CAK, but the boys were in the game until the 4th QTR rain delay. In that game I looked for the coaches to keep the boys heads in the game during the intermission. This week I came away from the game thinking the coaches dont know what they have from a talent aspsect and what kind of offense we are going to run. I know they want to run a gun slinger offense, but we dont have the QB's to execute. I think there is some promise at WR but to one of the other comments on this post you have to get the ball within their general vicinity. You are not going to win big games rotating 3 QB's per game (11,5,15). Figure out what you do best and go with it on BOTH sides of the ball... win or lose! I think it confuses the team and they give up when the see the coaches (right or wrong) just trying to make something happen.
Opie Shaggnasty
The cows can at least score a few points. The dragons have scored 19 in 5 games.Could we do a little kerr trading? oppressed238
@ Opie....No, Thanks. (on the Kerr trading) @ mavhead...I agree with a LOT of what you're saying. I think part of the problem IS that the COACHES don't know their talent or what exactly they ARE (the talent)is capable of. @ Oskie...NOT all of it is coaching, I agree. I understand there are some extra curricular activities going on with some team members. Let's just say what you do OFF the field DIRECTLY effects what goes on, on the field. @ ACM22...I hope you're right. Maybe they will gel at the right time... @ RR....I'm still NOT impressed with Hammontree. Not yet. I sincerely hope you're right about him and I do realize these "things" sometimes takes time. We shall see.....
