Sounds like some sore losers. I like that you point out the correct rules the officals followed. Sounds like they should be upset with their own coaches for not having their kids ready to make the right call once the Franklin captin messed up. I like how they want to say the officals must have been from Memphis.

It is clear you guys do not know your high school football, and if somebody told you that, then they do not know their football!!!! No sore losser here, just should of had a chance to play by the rules!!!! Do you not think that call changed the game. Winner of the toss chooses offense or defense and the loser chooses the side of field. Before the second overtime the "loser" of the coin toss before the 1st ot then chooses offense or defense so forth and so on. Only one toss, and the roles reverse each period. Winner of the toss gets the O or D choice in odd numbered overtimes and the loser of the toss gets the choice in even numbered periods.

Close. In overtime, the winner of the coin toss has three options. Offense, Defense or End of Field. Defer is not an option. 99.99999% of the time the choice is Defense.

This is copied from the rules book: Rule 3-2-1 The winner of the toss shall be given his choice of defense or offense first, or of designating the end of the field at which the ball will be put in play for this set of downs. The loser will have his choice of the other options.

After the first team on offense has completed its series of downs, the first team on defense will become the offensive team with the ball in its possession at the same 10-yard line anywhere between the hash marks.

If the score remains tied after each team has been given one series of downs in an overtime period, then the procedure shall be repeated with other overtime periods until a game winner is determined. In this case, there shall be an intermission of two minutes. At the subsequent meeting of team captains, the loser of the overtime coin toss will be given first choice of the options. If additional overtime periods are required, then first options will be alternated with no coin toss.

YOU GUYS GET ME You think it is funny to teach these young men that it is alright to break the rules to have an advantage? And yes that is what was taught! FRANKLIN's Coach knows the rules! Did we not already play a double over time game this year? Let me tell you what. I got there real early Friday and we walked around the school, I was impressed with your school. But this just proved to me you can not judge a book by its cover!!!! This HA! HA! HA! is not only bad show of class but also immaturity. Is this what you Franklin fans want to be known for? You asked for the rules and once they are posted, laugh!!!! Knowing that the rules were not followed!!!!

I would hope and pray no adult would teach my kids this lesson in life!!!!

Here's the thing, both teams played a terrific game, it was truly a hard fought battle, and most importantly, BOTH teams got the ball in the 2nd overtime and had an opportunity to win the game. YES, the officials screwed up, however both teams had the chance. Franklin came up with the win, lick your wounds, and move on.

 

Lastly, how can you put this on the Franklin coaches and question their integrity? the officials told Franklin to put their defense on the field. The game had just almost been lost, and there was an amazing blocked extra point to keep them alive. Stayed alive after the first overtime. You can't say it's the Franklin coaches fault when they are in the heat of the battle and emotions are flying. Coaches catch enough flack without having to deal with this sort of garbage. Referees should have fixed the problem.

 

Don't talk about class when Smyrna had someone pushing and yelling at a ref so much that the police had to escort him out of the stadium

 

Congrats to Smyrna on a great season. It says a lot about your kids that you fought through 5 OT games.

 

As for Franklin, you better stay focused and be ready for Brentwood. This will not be like the last time.

For the record if the winners of the toss defer then that means they are letting the other team decide what they want to do (meaning they won the toss) Franklin deferred giving the winnig decision to Smyrna who then chose that they wanted a paticular end zone which in turn gave Franklin the choice in the 2nd OT. I hope that you now understand the OT coin flip rules which are similar to the opening coin toss.
