Obion vs. Covington

What a bad time to have possible disruptions and distractions during the most important time of the season, the playoffs. Says something about a coach for having rules and sticking by them no matter what, when, where or who. Very sorry to hear this news on the players. Just heard about this. Good luck Rebels on Friday evening.

Obion Central head football coach Shawn Jackson has dismissed three players from the program for the remainder of the season and suspended a fourth for this week’s second round playoff game against Covington.

Jackson confirmed that junior linebacker Nathan Spaulding, senior receiver/defensive back Parker McMinn and senior Garrett Dunn had been removed from the team for a violation of team rules. Junior linebacker Blake Powers will sit out this week’s game as a result of a seperate incident.

A school disciplinary hearing was scheduled for this afternoon for the three players who’ll miss the remainder of the season, but Jackson said his decision will stand, regardless of that committee’s ruling.

Spaulding led the team and all of Obion County in tackles with 113 in 11 games, while McMinn has been a starter in both the secondary and at receiver for the Rebels. Dunn and Powers have seen action on special teams and as reserves.

Article may be a bit premature. From what I hear, they have not been dismissed from the team for the year but are suspended for the Covington game...

I will just say not having all the facts and listening to a kid that wasn't even there and then calling it a PR move is knee-jerk reaction!!! Hutch is a bad dude and couldn't wait to print negative things about oc. I will leave it at That!!!

You Hutch haters are nuts...I bet if you look The Messenger has dedicated more space in their sports section to OC than they have to Union City...If he was such a homer the sports section should be smothered with SF Red Devils stuff since he played and graduated from there...

I know the guy and believe me, he finds no joy in reporting on stuff like this...

They have guys that can play in the suspended kids' positions...

Purple,

I'm sure that they have some boys that can fill the spots, but you dont replace starters and the first guys you have coming off the bench that easily. I believe one of the boys was the leading tackler on the team. You just dont replace those guys that easily. It will hurt the Rebels. And, anyone would have to say that this hurts the Rebels chances of winning, unless they're just being a homer.

I'm picking Covington with a little more surety now. I was at the first game between these 2. It was a great game. BUT, Obion Co. better have learned to tackle better than they did that night, or they might be done. I saw a lot of missed tackles and arm tackling going on that night...and the Rebs are minus their leading tackler now.

I didn't say anything about how often he writes about one school or another. There we Go jumping the gun again. Just Like y'all say Jackson did. I said he was a bad dude! To say I said or meant anything else is a little premature don't you Think??

This is the old man that made the video. I have been doing video for about 17 years. Last Friday when I heard the song for the first time it gave me chills, it fired me up! I approached #12 with an idea about a video to that song. He agreed and called some of the Seniors to participate. The video is not directed at anyone. As a member of this wonderful community and a supporter of the chargers, we believe in them. It's our goal not to just raise great football players but to raise great young men. Win or Lose, we , the charger nation Believe in them and support them. The video is ultimately for them. Just think 20 years from now, they can set down with their children and show them this dvd of them and their team mates. Thats Priceless! For anyone who took offense to this, we are sorry you misunderstood our motive. We are the Chargers, and we are Proud.

great video man...ur right the kids will love it and so will their own lil ones...

i remember just a few years back when liberty had their lil walk-out song that they made for basketball...it does more good than harm...especially when ur backing it up...i remember watchin other teams come in and warm up...gettin into the music...and then they started catchin the lyrics...was pretty funny...

good luck tmrw...to both teams...

    • I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
    • No sir. I watched it specifically and it was very dirty. He cleated the boy on purpose. Apparently, it’s an issue in football as well from what several schools have said. That said, looking forward to a good game 3. ER hit it well in game 2.
    • He is the transfer. 5star spoke on him in their new qb1 series. Didn’t list em as a transfer but I knew the name
    • Gunner Warren was the second starter, freshman. SP #1 arm impressed me last night.
