Adding to the list of none cupcakes, some of those Rutherford county teams are always pretty tough,Riverdale,Oakland,Symrna. Also about Fulton, they have had some great teams in the last several years, beating Alcoa when they were very good A year or two, with five or six trips to the finals. This problem is not just a coach Clark problem for the history of DB playoff football. No coach at DB has ever done as well as coach Clark since the playoffs started in the 1960's{look it up}IT's NOT EVEN CLOSE.Coach Clark would have doubled DB's state titles if it were still voted on. Didn't DB have good athlete's and coaches for the last 50 years when coach Clark wasn't there.

Sooo what are you saying son, that the only way you can win a goldball is thru parliamentary procedure???? "Known" cupcakes list , well tell us.

db71, Thank You for the link. It explained a couple of things for me to ponder.

First Coach Clark's college experience as both a player and a Coach was not at what anyone could call at College 'Powerhouses'. Thusly he did not have to come up to the speed a D1 school would have taught him. Everytime you step 'up' in competition you have to get used to the new SPEED. Peewee to middle school to high school to (this and strength conditioning is the MAIN reason for a Red Shirt year) D2 to D1 then to the Canadian league and NFL. At EVERY level the speed increases.

You also find this at the different Regions/Districts in this state for HS Football. I will give you the fact that DB is the fastest in their District, and will hang with equally some others, but this is one aspect that is killing you in the playoffs. This 'speed' applies to Coaches in that they have to THINK faster. With age this slows for ALL of us. Not a slam, but a fact of life. In the playoffs you cannot take half a quarter to make adjustments. The teams you are playing will NOT get you used to playoff speed. One suggestion was play a couple of Rutherford County schools to get ready. ALL of the 6A schools in Rutherford County can get you up to speed. Even our bottom feeder beat CAK and sent them back east. Not saying it would happen to you, but playing one of us will get your speed up. Maybe the Coach will give up this years pay increase to fund a trip west?

Lost Old Dad - You make total sense, speed kills! NOT just on the field, but more importanly on the sideline. It;s time for our coaching to take it up to the next level! Thanks for that reply! ROLL TRIBE!

Yours is NOT the only school it has happened at. Here at R'dale is a prime example with our current coach. When he came to us he DID have a ring from 4A and a winning record in Metro Nashville. He did NOT win it by playing Maryville and Coach Q though. In his first year here he was still blessed with 'some' assistants from the Rankin days and a TEAM that should have been playing for the Silver Ball at least. The DC and OC he brought with him that he was so high on were TOTALLY lost when they hit 5A and our schedule already in place. Being 'Metro' Nashville coaches who were NOT used to the speed in Ruth Co hurt a basically GOOD HC.

The one thing I will give him is evidently he has been listening to somebody and has made some changes. Some of us are still not completely happy, but speaking for myself it will not happen until we do have the FIFTH Gold Ball.

Another question for y'all. How many are you playing TWO WAYS?

This has been hurting us as the Coaching staff that came with Coach A could NOT handle the 100+ we used to have out for Varsity football. He wanted less players forcing a BUNCH to have to play BOTH ways. This is the main thing that got us beat by Oak Ridge last year as our starters were simply out of gas at the start of the 4th quarter. Not blaming the kids as they hung in there and played their tails off. I blame that on coaching totally as he did not have kids prepared to have two squads. This year we DO have two squad football for the most part. With our first string QB out and hurt I hope it is enough to keep us close to Maryville.

Yes Elizabethton won the first one in 1939{only one classification},Morristown East in 1969,TH twice in the early seventies and JC in the eighties. All before coach Clark was the head coach and had {WACO}the states biggest bandwagon fan{One that supports a team during periods of success}.Yes I played for Greeneville and my son was First team ALL conference and First team all North East Tennessee at Dobyns-Bennett.Waco is Dobyns-Bennett or nothing.I'll take being a Greeneville boy over being Nothing. :thumb:

Yep, Im a Dobyns Bennett fan only. And you can push that pathetic ideal that im a "fair weather fan" all you want. When a true fan see's something wrong with a football program he want's to see it fixed. A true fan wouldn't become a lap dog for the problem. A true fan wouldn't jump on the bandwagon of team #2 when team #1 gets knocked out of the playoffs. You gettin' this Greenville Boy? Why don't you just stay on the Greenville thread and leave this discussion to the real DB fans.

I totally get what your saying, and theres some truth in it. But take Sevier Co., Clark was thinking fast enough to beat them in regular season. He was thinking fast enough to go up on them 21-0 in the first half. of the playoff game. Does the first half move faster than the second? I can't explain it but he quit. He quit and didn't have a clue as to what play to call or who's hands he wanted on the ball. OR, he threw the game on purpose. It has to be one of the two. Clark came out in the first half against Jefferson Co. and did a good job as DB went up 30-0 by halftime, holding Jefferson Co. to minus 26 total yards. In the second half Jeff. Co pushed us all over the field and outscored us 14-7. Clark acted like he didn't have a clue as to what play to call. Im at a loss as to what you call that. As everyone in the entire state knows this is not the first time we've seen this out of this coach. He can't and will not fix his problem.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
